What goes in a funeral program
A folded program has four pages. The free designs come with each of them laid out; change or remove anything you like.
Front cover
- A title such as "In Loving Memory" or "Celebrating the Life of"
- A photo
- Full name and dates of birth and death
- Day, date, time and place of the service
Inside left
- The obituary or life story
- Sometimes a second photo or a short quote
Inside right
- The order of service, with the person leading each part
- A poem, prayer or scripture reading

Questions families ask
Is this funeral program template really free?
Yes. Edit any of the three designs and download the program free, with no account and no credit card. A small “Made with FuneralFolio.com” line prints at the foot of each page. To remove it, choose Remove it for $25 when you download: $25 is the price of all our designs.
What is the difference between the free and the paid program?
The free download is a print-ready PDF of your program with the small credit line at the foot of each page. The paid program ($25) has no credit line, includes the Obituary PDF, and lets you add matching prayer cards, invitations and thank-you cards, or have the programs printed and shipped.
What size is a funeral program?
The usual size is a letter-size sheet (8.5" × 11") folded in half, which makes a 5.5" × 8.5" booklet with four pages. A flat 5" × 7" card printed on both sides works for a shorter service.
How do I print it at home?
The folded booklet prints on both sides of one letter-size sheet: choose “flip on short edge”, then fold it in half. The 5×7 card prints two to a letter sheet with cut marks. Print one copy first to check, on a heavier paper or light cardstock if your printer takes it.
Can I change the wording and the layout?
Yes. Every word is yours to change, and you can move sections between pages, add a photo collage, a poem or a prayer, or switch to any of our other designs and keep everything you wrote.
How many funeral programs should I print?
Plan one per expected guest or household, plus 10 to 20 percent extra for family keepsakes and late arrivals. The funeral home or church can usually tell you how many people they expect.
