Funeral thank-you card wording

A printed thank-you card carries one message for everyone who receives it, so it thanks people in general words. Two short sentences fit a 6″ × 4″ card. Put your loved one’s name where you see the highlight, and sign it from the family.

Thank you for standing with our family as we said goodbye to Name. We will remember your kindness for a long time.

The family of Name is deeply grateful for your sympathy and support. Every card, call and visit reminded us how loved Name was.

A public thank-you

Some families thank everyone at once, in a social media post, a card of thanks in the newspaper or the funeral program.

The family of Robert Hanley would like to thank everyone who reached out after his passing. Your cards, calls, visits and prayers have carried us.

A special thank-you to the nurses at St. Luke’s for the care they gave him, and to Pastor Mike for a beautiful service. We are grateful for each of you.

Frequently asked questions

What do you write in a funeral thank-you card?

Thank them for what they did, say in a sentence what it meant, and sign it. Two or three sentences are enough. The printed card carries one message for everyone, and many families add a handwritten line for the people closest to them.

Who should get a funeral thank-you note?

Anyone who sent flowers, made a memorial donation, brought food, sent a card, served as a pallbearer, spoke or sang at the service, or helped with the arrangements. Guests who only attended don’t need a note, though many families send one anyway.

How soon should I send thank-you notes after a funeral?

Within two to four weeks of the service is customary, but there is no deadline. A thank-you that arrives two months later is still welcome.

Should I mention the amount of a donation?

No. Thank them for the gift in your loved one’s memory and, if you like, name the charity. The writer never mentions an amount.

How does the thank-you note writer work?

It uses AI to write a short note from the details you give. It only thanks people for what you tell it they did, and it doesn’t make up details. Read the note through, and change any word so it sounds like you.

Does the writer save what I type?

No. Your loved one’s name, the names of the people you’re thanking and anything else you share are used once, to write the note, and are never stored or published.

Writing the rest? Our free obituary writer, eulogy writer and funeral prayer writer can help with those too.
