Born on February 3, 1943, in Frederick, Maryland, Zan was the beloved daughter of Margaret Cole. She was predeceased by her dear mother, her cherished husband Cecil, her loving sister Nola, and her precious granddaughter Caroline, whose memories she held close to her heart.
Zan's life was a testament to enduring love and partnership. She married her soulmate, Cecil Basinger, on June 18, 1961, and together they built a beautiful life, sustaining a remarkable 62-year partnership filled with laughter, support, and unwavering dedication to one another. Their love story was an inspiration to all who knew them.
A proud graduate of Suitland High School, Zan embarked on a distinguished career with the federal government. She dedicated over 30 years of service to the telephone company, the Office of Naval Research, and the Naval Research Laboratory, retiring as a Budget Program Manager. Her professional life was marked by integrity, diligence, and a commitment to excellence, qualities that earned her the respect and admiration of her colleagues.
Zan's greatest joy, however, came from her family. She was a devoted mother to Julie, Michael and Scott, Kim and Colleen, and a proud grandmother to eight grandchildren, each of whom was the light of her life. Her happiest moments were spent in their company, whether nurturing them with her love, celebrating their achievements, or simply enjoying the warmth of their presence.

She possessed an extraordinary ability to make those around her feel seen, heard, and loved. Her selfless acts and genuine empathy touched countless lives, leaving an indelible imprint on all who were fortunate to know her.
