It is with heavy hearts and profound sadness that we announce the passing of Zachary Ryan Reynolds, a beloved son, brother, and friend. Zachary left this world on May 3, 2026, at the age of 41, leaving behind a legacy of kindness, laughter, and unwavering support for those around him. Born on February 11, 1985, in Norfolk, Virginia, Zachary was the cherished son of Julia Groff Schumann and Thomas Vance Schumann. He was predeceased by his father, Edwin Eugene Reynolds, and his beloved grandparents, whose memories he carried lovingly throughout his life. Zachary is survived by a large and loving family in Virginia, as well as family members in Minnesota, and a close-knit community that he fondly referred to as his AA Family. Zachary's life was one of dedication to both learning and service. He was a proud graduate of Old Dominion University, where he earned degrees in Criminal Justice and Sociology. His passion for helping others was evident in his career at the Gloucester Public Library, where he was in charge of the teen program. His innovative spirit shone brightly as he took to hosting a cooking show for the library, a testament to his creativity and commitment to community engagement. Zachary was known for his remarkable sense of humor, which could lift the spirits of anyone he encountered. Whether it was family, friends, or strangers, he was always ready to extend a helping hand. His ability to connect with people from all walks of life was a rare gift, and he used it to forge bonds that transcended geography and circumstance. A celebration of Zachary's life will take place on May 23, 2026, at 1:00 PM at the Abingdon Episcopal Church Social Hall, located at 4645 S. George Washington Memorial Highway, Gloucester, VA. All who knew and loved Zachary are invited to join us in honoring his memory and the indelible impact he had on our lives. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in Zachary's name to the Gloucester Public Library (gloucesterva.gov/library), Lancaster Library (lancasterlibrary.org), or local animal shelters. These organizations reflect Zachary's enduring commitment to education, community, and the well-being of all creatures. Zachary Ryan Reynolds will be deeply missed by all who were fortunate enough to know him. His spirit will live on in the laughter he inspired, the kindness he spread, and the countless lives he touched. May we all strive to carry forward the love and generosity that Zachary so effortlessly embodied.
