Yvonne whiteside

Yvonne Whiteside, a cherished sister, aunt, and friend, passed away peacefully on July 31, 2026, at Bronson Battle Creek Hospital. Born on April 2, 1949, in Battle Creek, Michigan, Yvonne was the beloved daughter of Charley Sims Jr. and Bertha Mae Davis-Sims. She was preceded in death by her parents and her dear sister, Charlotte Lee Sims. A lifelong resident of Battle Creek, Yvonne attended Battle Creek Central, where she began to cultivate her love of learning and her passion for cooking. Her career spanned several notable establishments; she brought her culinary talents to the Hart Hotel, the Capp Center, Claris, and the Calhoun County Jail, where she worked as a cook. Yvonne's kitchen was a place of warmth, love, and delicious aromas. She could tell you just about anything you wanted to know about cooking and took great joy in sharing her culinary wisdom with others. Yvonne's hobbies extended beyond cooking. She found joy in playing cards, partaking in crafts, and celebrating the holidays with her family. Her love for these activities brought her close to her surviving family members: her sister, Marie Fitzpatrick; her brother, George Sims and his wife, Shelly; and her niece, Trina Sims. Though she leaves behind no grandchildren, Yvonne's nurturing spirit touched the lives of many who were fortunate enough to know her. A service to honor Yvonne's life will be held on September 16, 2026, at 2:41 PM at the VFW. Family and friends will gather to celebrate the life of a remarkable woman whose legacy of love and kindness will endure in the hearts of those she leaves behind. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in Yvonne's memory to the American Cancer Society - Breast Cancer Fund, a cause close to her heart. Yvonne Whiteside's life was a testament to the power of love, resilience, and the joy found in everyday moments. Her memory will be cherished by all who had the privilege to share in her journey.
