It is with heavy hearts yet profound gratitude for a life well-lived that we announce the passing of our beloved Mother, Yvonne Hammond. Yvonne left this world peacefully on June 25, 2026, at the age of 87, leaving behind a legacy of love, compassion, and strength.
Yvonne was born on January 13, 1939 in Silver Springs, Mississippi, to Henry Hammond and Classie Mae Strickland, who have since predeceased her, along with her siblings, Emma Hammond, Willie Hammond, James Hammond, Henry Hammond and children, Charles Haywood Jr. and Vanessa Haywood, her grandson, Justin Holmes.
A woman of remarkable dedication, Yvonne pursued a career in nursing, graduating from Southwest Community College as a Registered Nurse, later completing her Bachelor of Science in Nursing and obtaining her Teaching Credentials from Phoenix University . Her career was not just a profession but a calling, as she spent decades caring for others with unwavering dedication and boundless compassion. Her gentle touch and reassuring presence comforted countless patients and families during their most vulnerable times.
Yvonne’s life was a testament to love and resilience. She is survived by her devoted life partner, Willie Howard, who shared with her a bond that was as deep as it was enduring. Together, they created a loving home filled with laughter, warmth, and cherished memories.
She is also survived by her children, Eugene Haywood and Kimberly Miles, who carry forward her legacy of grace and kindness. Her impact extends deeply into the lives of her eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren, each of whom held a special place in her heart. Her extended family and close friends, whom also mourn the loss of a truly remarkable woman whose door was always open, and whose wisdom and kindness were boundless.
A service in honor of Yvonne’s life will be held on July 7, 2026, at 12:00 PM at Kennedy Memorial Gardens, John F. Kennedy Mausoleum, located at 2500 River Road. Family, friends, and all whose lives were touched by Yvonne are invited to join us in celebrating her life and the love she shared with so many.
Yvonne Hammond will be remembered for her unwavering compassion, her enduring love for her family, and her indomitable spirit. She leaves behind a legacy that will continue to inspire all who knew her. Her life was a blessing, and her memory will forever be a treasure.
