Born on February 20, 1967, in Los Angeles, California, Yvonne's life was a testament to love, service, and laughter. Yvonne was a woman of remarkable spirit and resilience. Raised by her beloved parents, John Matthew Thompson and her late mother, she embraced life's challenges with grace and humor. Her father, who predeceased her, left an indelible mark on her character. She was a devoted wife to Jorge Smith, whom she married in July of 1976, nurturing a family that became her greatest joy. Her educational journey led her to graduate from Crenshaw High School in the early 2000s. Driven by a deep sense of duty, Yvonne proudly served in the U.S. Army from 2007 to 2015, a period that instilled in her a profound sense of discipline and honor. Yvonne's professional life was dedicated to caring for others. Whether as a housekeeper, caregiver, or med tech, she approached each role with a tender heart and a commitment to excellence. Her compassion extended beyond her work; she was an active member of her church in Las Vegas, NV, for over 13 years, where she found deep spiritual fulfillment and community. Her passions were many and varied. Yvonne was an avid fisherman, found joy in skating and sewing, and expressed her creativity through poetry. She was known for her quick wit, gentle hugs, and a lovely fragrance that seemed to linger long after she left a room. Yvonne's legacy lives on in her family. She leaves behind five children, a testament to her nurturing spirit, along with 16 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren who carry forward her legacy of love. Her beloved dog, a constant companion, will surely miss her presence. A celebration of Yvonne's life will be held on November 28, 2026, at 12:00 PM at Grace Funeral Home, located at 6604 Interstate 27, Lubbock, TX 79404, United States. Family and friends who loved Yvonne and wish to honor her memory are welcome to bring guests, with an allowance to bring an additional two people. In lieu of flowers, those who wish to honor Yvonne's memory may consider making donations to a charity of their choice in her name.
