Yong Cha Saccheri
October 2, 1943 — April 26, 2026
It is with profound sadness and heartfelt gratitude for a life well-lived that we announce the passing of Yong Cha Saccheri, who left this world peacefully on April 26, 2026, at her home in Palm Bay, Florida. Born on October 2, 1943, in Changhang, South Korea, Yong's journey was one of resilience, love, and unwavering devotion to her family and her passions.
Yong was the cherished daughter of Kim Okmae and was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 25 years, Salvatore Saccheri, who passed in 1994, as well as two brothers and a sister. Her story began in South Korea, where she met Salvatore, the love of her life, while he was stationed there during his military service. They married on April 11, 1969, and soon after, embarked on a new adventure by moving to New York City to begin their life together post-service.
Yong was a woman of diverse talents and interests. Throughout her life, she held various jobs, each reflecting her innate connection to nature. Her time spent working in greenhouses was particularly fulfilling, as her exceptional ability with plants brought her immense joy. Her family also owned a deli in New York City for many years, but her heart always led her back to horticulture, which remained her lifelong passion.
A devout Catholic, Yong was an active member of her church community, where she found strength and solace in her faith. Her hobbies included cooking, particularly traditional Korean cuisine, which she shared with her family and friends, creating cherished memories around the dinner table.
Those who knew Yong remember her as a kind, quick-witted, and incredibly intelligent woman. She had an unparalleled ability to anticipate the needs of others, often providing comfort and support before they even asked. Her selflessness was legendary, and she was known for her generosity and wise counsel, always offering a kind word to those in need.
Yong leaves behind a loving family who will continue to honor her legacy. She is survived by her daughter Lisa Degasperri and her husband Tommy of Middle Island, NY; her son Joseph Saccheri-McGlothlin and his husband Steven McGlothlin-Saccheri of Palm Bay, FL; her daughter Kim Winchester and her husband; her son Salvatore Saccheri of Baltimore; and her two sisters, Cho Yung I'm of NYC and Seoul. She was a proud grandmother to five grandchildren and a great-grandmother to four, with two more great-grandchildren on the way.
Yong's family invites you to join them in celebrating her life on July 8, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Calverton National Cemetery, located in Calverton, NY. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to a charity of your choice in Yong's memory.
The family would also like to extend their deepest gratitude to Bri from Amedisys Hospice for the kind and compassionate care provided to Yong in her final days. Yong's trust in Bri was unprecedented, and she spoke of her with great kindness and appreciation.
Yong Cha Saccheri's legacy of love, kindness, and generosity will forever be cherished by all who were fortunate enough to know her. Her spirit will continue to bloom in the hearts of those she touched.
