Wynona Cheyenne Shotbothsides
February 10, 1990 — December 7, 2018
It is with profound sorrow and heartfelt reverence that we announce the passing of Wynona Cheyenne Shotbothsides, a remarkable soul whose presence brought light and laughter to all who knew her. Born on February 10, 1990, in Lethbridge, Alberta, Wynona departed from this world on December 7, 2018, following a brief and courageous battle with cancer. Though her time with us was tragically short, the impact she made in those years was both profound and lasting.
Wynona's early life was marked by resilience and the forging of lifelong bonds. Following the untimely passing of her beloved father, Terrance, in 2001, Wynona moved to Calgary at the tender age of 11. It was there, on her very first day of grade 7, that she met Zachary Oittinen. Their shared experience of loss and a mutual love of space, nature, and adventure laid the foundation for a friendship that blossomed into a lifelong partnership. Together, they navigated the ups and downs of life, creating a family and a community around them that was as warm and welcoming as Wynona herself.
After graduating from the Louise Dean Centre in 2007, Wynona moved to Crowsnest Pass, where she became a cherished member of the community. Starting as a bartender at the Cosmopolitan Bar and Hotel, she quickly became a beloved figure, known for her quick wit and dark humor, which never failed to bring comfort and laughter to those around her. In 2010, Wynona and Zachary embarked on a new adventure, establishing Southern Exposure Property Management and acquiring Crowsnest Pass Taxi Services. Wynona's presence as a taxi driver was as much a part of her community service as her official volunteer work at the Crowsnest Pass SPCA, where her love for animals shone brightly.
Wynona was a woman of boundless energy and enthusiasm, always eager to embrace the great outdoors. Whether hiking through rugged trails, camping under starlit skies, fishing in tranquil waters, or gliding through snow-covered landscapes on skis or snowshoes, Wynona's spirit was one with nature. She found joy and serenity in the world around her, and she shared that joy with her family, friends, and the many animals she cared for.
Her legacy is carried forward by her devoted common-law husband, Zachary, and their seven beloved children: Stellaluna, Phoenix, Zephyr, Avaluna, Elio, Orion, and Aurora. Wynona is also survived by her siblings Sierra, Glyinis, Kenyandra, Dominic, and Dakota, each of whom held a special place in her heart.
Wynona Shotbothsides was a beacon of light in the lives of those who knew her. Her ability to listen, to offer comfort with a smile and a joke, and to make everyone feel heard and valued was unparalleled. Her mantra, "I'm going to smile while I can. Nobody's taking that away," encapsulates the indomitable spirit that defined her life.
As we remember Wynona, we celebrate a life lived with authenticity, humor, and an unwavering commitment to those she loved. Though her time with us was far too brief, the memories she leaves behind will continue to inspire and uplift us. Wynona's spirit will forever soar among the stars she loved, a guiding light for those of us who look to the heavens and remember her warmth, her laughter, and her love.
A celebration of Wynona's life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to the Crowsnest Pass SPCA, in honor of Wynona's enduring love for animals.
