Woodrow Haynes Sr, a cherished member of the Eastman community, passed away peacefully on August 26, 2026, at the age of 79. Born on June 9, 1947, in Eastman, Dodge, Georgia, Woodrow was the beloved son of John Haynes Jr and Mary Emma Wright. He was a beacon of kindness and humor, whose gentle spirit touched the lives of all who knew him.
Woodrow graduated from Peabody High School in 1969, embarking on a lifelong journey marked by dedication and service. For over 30 years, he worked diligently as a Street Worker for the City of Eastman, retiring in 2014. His commitment to his work was paralleled only by his devotion to his family and community.
On August 12, 1971, Woodrow married the love of his life, Audrey Jewel Adams, in Sarasota, Florida. Together, they built a life filled with love, laughter, and cherished memories. Woodrow is now reunited with his beloved Audrey, who predeceased him, along with his parents, five infant siblings including his twin, Wilson, and siblings Grady Lee Franklin, Roger Tate, Carrie Harris, and Patricia Gnewuch.
He leaves behind a legacy of love through his children, Woodrow II and Antonio Haynes, and his adoring grandchildren, Monica Haynes, Timothy Haynes, and Kevin Christian. He also delighted in his seven great-grandchildren and found joy in the company of his many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Surviving him are his dear siblings, John Wesley Haynes Sr, Thomas Haynes, Phil King, and Mary Lockett.
Woodrow was a man of deep faith, attending Shorter Chapel in his youth and visiting other churches to hear the word of God. He found pleasure in listening to music, playing cards, and sharing laughter with his family. Known for his kind-hearted nature, Woodrow had an uncanny ability to lighten the mood with a joke or a fond memory, always bringing smiles to those around him.
A service celebrating Woodrow's life will be held on September 5, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Deliverance Temple, located at 3310 Eastman Dublin Hwy. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to a charity of your choice, in honor of Woodrow's generous spirit.
