W.L. Basco

W.L. Basco, a cherished member of the community and a beloved family patriarch, passed peacefully on August 20, 2026, surrounded by his family in Mora, Louisiana. Born on February 2, 1934, in Flatwoods, Louisiana, he was the son of Lawrence Basco and Elizabeth Setliff. W.L. led a life marked by devotion to family, service to his country, and a deep appreciation for the simple joys of life. W.L. proudly served his country as a veteran of the U.S. Army, a commitment that instilled in him a profound sense of duty and responsibility. Following his military service, he dedicated himself to a long and fulfilling career as a truck driver at Fort Polk, retiring in 1988. His work ethic and dedication were admired by all who knew him. In 1959, W.L. married the love of his life, Gloria Jean Basco, with whom he shared nearly 50 years of marriage until her passing in 2009. Their union was blessed with children and a growing family that brought immense joy to W.L.'s life. Though predeceased by his son, W.L. Basco, Jr., and daughter, Velva Dene Basco, W.L.'s legacy continues through his surviving son, Warren Basco, Sr., three beloved grandchildren—Robbie Setliff and wife Amanda, Warren Basco, Jr., and Stephanie Roberts and husband Jason—and ten treasured great-grandchildren. His extended family includes a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives who will miss him dearly. W.L. was a man of simple pleasures and deep passions. He was an ardent news enthusiast, frequently found watching Fox News and engaging in thoughtful discussions about current events. His selfless and kindhearted nature shone through in his love for gardening and hunting, activities that brought him peace and fulfillment. A day was never complete without enjoying his coffee, a habit he indulged in from morning to night. Above all, W.L. adored his grandchildren, who were the light of his life. A funeral service to honor W.L.'s life will be held on August 26, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at the Pine Coupee Pentecostal Church, located at 299 Pine Coupee Road, Flatwoods, LA 71427. Family, friends, and all who were touched by W.L.'s kindness and generosity are invited to celebrate his life and legacy. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in W.L.'s memory to a charity of your choice. W.L. Basco's warmth, humor, and unwavering dedication to his family and community will be remembered by all who were blessed to know him. His spirit will continue to inspire and guide his loved ones, leaving an indelible mark on their hearts.
