Winnie "Carolyn" Barnes, a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend, peacefully left this world on October 7, 2026, in Columbia, LA. Born on December 23, 1939, in Minden, LA, Carolyn was the cherished daughter of Robert Winston Lyle and Annie Evelyn Atkins Lyle. She was welcomed into eternity by her parents, her husband of 65 years, Robert Glen Barnes, her daughter Theresa Stewart, and her great-grandchild Ava Clark.
Carolyn was a woman of grace and kindness, leaving a legacy of love and faith that touched all who knew her. She pursued her education with determination, earning a bachelor's degree that would serve as a foundation for her fulfilling career as an Administrative Assistant with the Volunteers of America. Carolyn's commitment to helping others was evident not only in her professional life but also through her active membership at Urania Baptist Church, where her faith in the Lord was a guiding light.
Her life was a tapestry of vibrant interests, reflecting her creative spirit and joyful heart. Carolyn found beauty in the world around her through flower arranging, painting, and sewing. In her quieter moments, she enjoyed playing computer games, a pastime she often shared with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, creating memories filled with laughter and love. Her family was the center of her world, and she treasured every moment spent with them.
Carolyn is survived by her sons, Kenneth Glenn Barnes and his wife Pamela, and Christopher James Barnes and his wife Candace. Her siblings, brother Bobby Lyle, and sisters Judy Hunter and Anita Bresher with her husband Steve, will remember her with enduring affection. Her legacy continues through her grandchildren, Amy Clark and her husband Bill, Whitley Cannon and her husband Bailey, and Brealyn Guichet and her husband Byron. Her great-grandchildren, Owen, Jace, Warren, Dalten, Silas, Cash, Everly, Addison, Remington, and Stetson, will grow up with stories of her warmth and generosity.
A service celebrating Carolyn's life will be held on October 10, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at the Pleasant Valley Methodist Church, located at 16835 U.S. 371, Minden, LA. Family and friends are invited to honor her memory and share in the joy of her life.
