In Loving Memory

Winifred Bray
August 23, 1950 — April 26, 2026
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Winifred Bray, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, who departed this world on April 26, 2026, at the age of 75, after a courageous battle with cancer. Winifred was born on August 23, 1950, to Fletcher Armour Sr. and Lois Lawrence Armour, and from that day forward, she filled the world with light and laughter.
Winifred was a trailblazer in her own right, graduating from Riverside High School in 1968 and making history as the first African American postal carrier in Chattanooga. Her career at the United States Postal Service spanned an impressive 32 years, during which she became a cherished fixture in the community, known for her quick wit and warm smile. Winifred had a remarkable ability to brighten any day with a well-timed joke and a genuine warmth that made everyone feel welcome and valued.
Winifred's life was a testament to kindness and generosity, traits that endeared her to everyone she met. Her friends and family remember her as a beacon of love who touched countless lives with her compassion. She is survived by her devoted husband of 34 years, Robert Bray, who stood by her side through every triumph and challenge. Her legacy of love continues through her daughter Ladonna Armour and her stepdaughters Nichole Bray and Robin Bray, as well as her stepson James Williams.
Winifred's siblings, Emma J. Craig, Ruby Tyree Young, James “Perry” Armour, Jerome Armour, Fletcher Armour Jr., and Connie Lou, will forever cherish the memories of their sister's infectious joy and unwavering support. Her grandchildren—Andre Edwards, Aireal Armour, Antione Armour, and Andrenay Armour—along with her 11 great-grandchildren, carry forward her spirit and the lessons of love she imparted.
Though she has left this earthly realm, Winifred is reunited with loved ones who have gone before her, including her parents, Fletcher and Lois Armour, her sister Adriene Armour, and her beloved pet, Magic Bray. Her absence leaves a profound void, yet her memory will live on in the hearts of her nieces, nephews, great-grandchildren, and a host of friends who were blessed to know her.
As we gather to celebrate Winifred's remarkable life, we are reminded of the legacy she leaves behind—one defined by love, laughter, and a profound sense of community. In honoring her memory, may we strive to emulate her kindness, her humor, and her unyielding love for those around her.
Rest in peace, dear Winifred. Your legacy will forever inspire and uplift those you leave behind.
