Winfield DeHart
May 13, 1892 — June 15, 1978
It is with heavy hearts and fond memories that we announce the peaceful passing of Winfield DeHart, a beloved husband, father, brother, and grandfather on June 15, 1978. Born on May 13, 1892, in Terrebonne Parish, Louisiana, Winfield lived a life full of love, laughter, and dedication to his family and community.
Winfield was the cherished son of William Willis DeHart and Mary Elizabeth Funguy DeHart. He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife Christine LaCoste DeHart, and his children: Adele DeHart, Leola DeHart, Alfred DeHart, and Sterling DeHart. He also joins his siblings Wynant DeHart, Charles DeHart, Herman DeHart, Edward DeHart, and Cornelia DeHart Adams in eternal rest.
On November 24, 1927, Winfield found his lifelong partner in Roseline Lovell DeHart. Together, they built a loving home and shared countless cherished moments over the years. Winfield is lovingly remembered by Roseline, who stood by his side through the many seasons of their lives. Their union was blessed with children who continue his legacy: Delvin DeHart, William DeHart, Merlin DeHart, Lora DeHart, and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren and grate grate grandchildren and his siblings Violet DeHart. He also leaves behind his siblings Sanders DeHart, Davis DeHart, and Delia DeHart Daisy.
A lifelong shrimper, Winfield’s work was more than just a job—it was his passion. His days on the water were filled with the joy of doing what he loved most. Beyond his profession, he was an avid fisherman, often seen with a fishing rod in hand and a twinkle in his eye. Winfield was a proud member of St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church, where his faith and dedication to community were evident to all who knew him.
Winfield's humor and warmth were unmatched. Known for his infectious laugh and ever-present smile, he never had a frown and spread joy wherever he went. His family was his heart, and he loved them with every fiber of his being.
As we remember Winfield DeHart, we celebrate a life that touched so many. His memory will forever live on in the hearts of those who knew him. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly suggests donations be made to a memorial fund or organization of your choice in honor of Winfield’s loving spirit and generous heart.
