Wilson James Mitchell

Wilson James Mitchell, a beloved husband, father, uncle, grandfather, Papa and friend, passed away peacefully on August 13, 2026, surrounded by his cherished family in Federal Way Washington. Born on June 26, 1942, in Hartford, Connecticut, Wilson lived a life full of love, service, and adventure. Wilson was the son of George and Mary Mitchell and grew up in a household filled with warmth alongside brother Doula and sisters, Melda and Irene, who predeceased him. He spent his early years in Hartford, eventually embarking on a remarkable journey that included a distinguished 20-year career in the U.S. Air Force. His dedication and commitment to his country were unmatched, and he carried this spirit into his civilian life. After his military service, Wilson dedicated another 20 years to the Boeing Company as a Blue Streak Mechanic, tackling urgent and complex projects with expertise and passion. His talent extended beyond his professional achievements; he was a master woodworker, a skillful card player, and had an eye for collecting eagle statues and antiques. Wilson's hands were never idle, and his heart was always open. Wilson was a man who thrived in the company of family and friends. He shared 46 wonderful years with his beloved wife, Patricia, whom he married with joy and devotion. Together, their family included children, James (Cindy), Thomas, David (Connie), Stephanie (Sean), Debbie, and Christopher. Wilson was a proud uncle, grandfather and great grandfather, each of whom brought immense joy to his life. A man of service, Wilson volunteered tirelessly with the Lake Cushman Fire Department, where he later served as Fire Commissioner. His commitment to his community extended to the Hood Canal Food Bank, where he offered his time and energy for many years. Wilson's life was one of generosity and kindness. He was the neighbor who was always ready to help, the friend who was always ready to laugh, and the family man who cherished every moment spent with his loved ones. His love for RVing, boating, bead art, and the occasional trip to the casino where he reveled in a win, painted a picture of a life lived to the fullest. The Mitchell family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to the Lake Cushman Fire Department and community for their unwavering support, and to the Brannan Park Assisted Living facility in Auburn Washington for their compassionate care during Wilson's final days. He will remain "Forever in our hearts." In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to the Hood Canal Food Bank in memory of Wilson's dedication to his community. His legacy of love and service will continue to inspire all who knew him.
