Wilma Sievers

Wilma Sievers, a beloved matriarch and cherished friend, passed away peacefully on July 25, 2026, at the age of 106. Born on March 13, 1920, in the small town of Charter Oak, Iowa, Wilma was the daughter of Edward and Lena Goslar. Her long and rich life was a testament to her strength, compassion, and unwavering love for her family and community. Wilma's journey began in Charter Oak, where she graduated from Charter Oak High School in 1939. Soon after, she married Alfred Sievers on January 15, 1941, with whom she shared a life full of joy and steadfast companionship until his passing on June 25, 1988. In a beautiful twist of fate, Wilma found love again and married Lenus Sievers on October 19, 1992, enriching her life with further joy and companionship. A woman of many talents, Wilma's career began on the family farm before she discovered her passion for cooking at Fred’s Cafe in Denison, Iowa. Her love for the culinary arts blossomed, leading her to own and operate The Kiron Standard Cafe in Kiron for several years. Even after selling the cafe in 1976, she continued to delight many with her culinary skills at various local restaurants. Wilma's life was graced with the joys of family. She was the cherished mother of Mike (Susan) Sievers, Arlis (Richard) Jones, and Kay (Danny) Blunk. Her legacy includes 8 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, and several great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother Ronnie (LuAnn) Goslar, sister Shirley Gosch, and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and dear friends. Wilma was predeceased by her parents, her first husband Alfred, her second husband Lenus, her son Richard, infant daughter Janet Jean, and her sisters Lola, Audrey, Jean, and Irma, as well as her brothers Philip and Edward, and stepchildren. Wilma was a woman of deep faith, baptized at St. John's Lutheran Church in Charter Oak. Her spiritual journey led her through memberships at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Schleswig, St. Bernard in Breda, and finally St. Rose in Denison, where she embraced her Catholic faith with devotion. Her life was filled with simple joys, including playing Bingo, card games, and fishing. Cooking was not just her profession but also her favorite pastime, and she always delighted in sharing meals with her loved ones. Wilma was renowned for her excellent memory, often recalling details that others might forget, and her vivid storytelling kept her family connected to their shared history. Wilma leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and resilience. Her journey was guided by her love for her family and her community, which she served with kindness and dedication. Her memory will forever be treasured by all who had the privilege to know her. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to a charity of one's choice in Wilma’s memory, honoring her generous spirit and her commitment to helping others. Wilma’s life was a tapestry of love, faith, and community, and she will be deeply missed by all who knew her. Her family takes comfort in knowing that she is now at peace, reunited with those who have gone before her.
