Wilma Gaffney

Wilma Gertrude Gaffney, a beloved matriarch and devoted woman of faith, peacefully completed her earthly journey on August 14, 2026, at the age of 89. Born on August 2, 1937, in Coosa County, Alabama, Wilma was the cherished daughter of Green and Missouria Knight. She married the love of her life, John Gaffney, and together they built a life rich with love and devotion. Wilma was preceded in death by her parents, her husband John, her son Sidney Knight, and her siblings Edward Knight, Joe Archie Knight, Willie Green Knight, Sallie Ann Gaffney, Joyce Barry, Mary Lee Darby, Annie Lou Robinson, and Menola Knight. Wilma's legacy of love and kindness lives on through her grandsons, Antonio Lamont Kemp, Sidney Tyrone Knight, and Siyaka Jermal Knight, as well as her great-grandchildren, Cheyenne, Ahriel, Jermal, and Sidney. She is also remembered fondly by a host of beloved nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends whose lives she touched with her gentle spirit and unwavering care. For 25 years, Wilma dedicated herself to her work at Miss Elaine, a women's clothing manufacturer in downtown St. Louis. Later in life, her nurturing spirit found new purpose as she became a caregiver, first for young children and later for elderly adults. Her attentiveness, patience, and compassion were gifts she shared generously with all who were fortunate enough to know her. Wilma's faith was the cornerstone of her life. A devoted member of Galilee Baptist Church for over 60 years, she served her congregation with dedication and joy. Her roles on the Usher Board, in the Glee Club Choir, and as a Sunday School teacher enriched the spiritual lives of many and demonstrated her deep commitment to her community and faith. Known for her love of fashion, Wilma was often seen on Sundays adorned in a uniquely stylish dress, complete with the perfect matching hat—a testament to her elegance and confidence. Her personal style was as distinctive as her generous heart. Family was always at the heart of Wilma's life. Her home was a sanctuary where family members found solace, care, and love. She opened her doors and heart without hesitation, embodying a spirit of generosity that was unmatched. A service to celebrate Wilma's remarkable life will be held on September 15, 2026, at 10:00 AM at Galilee Missionary Baptist Church, located at 4300 Delmar Blvd., St. Louis, MO 63108. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to a charity of your choice in her memory. Wilma Gertrude Gaffney's life was a testament to love, faith, and service.
