December 6, 1940 - February 19, 2026 East Point, Georgia—It is with heavy hearts and profound gratitude for a life well-lived that we announce the peaceful passing of Willie Flagg on February 19, 2026. Willie departed this world surrounded by the warmth and love of his family in the comfort of his home, leaving behind a legacy of kindness, wisdom, and unwavering strength. Born on December 6, 1940, in East Point, Georgia, Willie was the cherished son of the late Earnest and Mary Flagg. He grew up alongside his brothers James and Henry, who predeceased him, in a household where values of hard work, integrity, and love for one another were paramount. These values guided him throughout his life. In 1965, Willie graduated from South Atlanta High School, marking the beginning of a journey that would see him become a respected mechanical engineer. He pursued higher education with determination, earning a Bachelor's degree in Engineering from Georgia State University in 1969, followed by an MBA from City College. Willie devoted 35 years of his career to ATL Engineering Company, where he was not only a skilled engineer but also a mentor to many young professionals. His leadership and innovation were instrumental in the design of the 1998 transmission system, a testament to his brilliance and dedication. On June 15, 1975, Willie married the love of his life, Mabel Ann Flagg, in East Point, Atlanta. Their union of 50 years was a testament to enduring love and partnership. Together, they raised three wonderful children: Susie (James) White, Earnest Jr. (Wanda) Flagg, and Henry (Mary) Flagg, instilling in them the same values that Willie cherished. His family was his pride and joy, and he cherished his role as a husband, father, and grandfather. Willie's life was enriched by six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren, who brought him endless joy and laughter. His gentle spirit and quiet strength were felt by all who knew him, and his quick wit and warm smile were ever-present, ready to lift any mood and make everyone feel welcome and valued. In his leisure time, Willie found happiness in the simple pleasures of life: fishing, enjoying the company of friends and family, and frying up some good old country fish. His love for these activities reflected his deep appreciation for life's blessings and his ability to find joy in every moment. Willie's kindness and generosity touched countless lives, leaving an indelible mark on those fortunate enough to have known him. His wisdom and guidance will be cherished and carried forward by his beloved family and close friends. A service to honor and celebrate Willie's life will be held on February 27, 2026, at 2:30 PM at the Chapel of Gus Thornhill's Funeral Home, located at 1315 Gus Thornhill Jr Dr, East Point, GA 30344. The family extends their heartfelt gratitude for the outpouring of love and support during this difficult time.
