With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Willie D. Bell Jr., a cherished husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend, who left this world peacefully on June 11, 2026, at the age of 80. Born on December 7, 1945, in Schlater, Mississippi, Willie was the beloved son of the late Pauline Bell and Willie D. Bell Sr. He was predeceased by his parents, his great-grandson Aspen Callahan, and his great-granddaughter Mi'Yani McGee-Cheatem. Willie is survived by his devoted wife of 57 years, Mrs. Normia Jean Bell, and his children: Gregory Matthews (Barbara), Anthony Jackson, Erica Bell Gray (Bryon), Veronica Bell, Willie D. Bell III (Leticia), and Cameron Bell Sr. He leaves behind a large, loving family, including his siblings: Nathan (Ophelia), Zora Turner (Ollie), Doris Moore (William), Everette Bell, Rebecca Wilson (Terry), Magaline Ratcliff (Andrew), Robert Bell, Cindy Bell-Stevenson (Dewey), and Jeanette Bell-Neeley (Raymond). Willie was a proud grandfather to ten grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren, each of whom he adored and who brought him immense joy and pride. Willie shared a beautiful life with Normia, whom he married on October 13, 1968, before moving to California where they spent most of their married life, raising a wonderful family. Their enduring love was a testament to their deep commitment and unwavering bond, embodying the scripture: “Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things” (1 Corinthians 13:7). A graduate of Amanda Elzy High School, Willie furthered his education as a Computer Technician at American Business College. His passion for learning was matched only by his love for golf, preaching, fishing, music, and gardening. Known for his infectious laughter and warm spirit, Willie’s stories, often spun from simple mishaps, became treasured family lore. Willie's legacy is one of love, laughter, and devotion. He was a man of integrity, who believed in the importance of order, cleanliness, and presenting oneself with dignity. His family was his pride and joy, and he often traveled great distances just to be with them. A service celebrating Willie’s life will be held on June 16, 2026, at 1:00 PM at Alexander Funeral Home - West Chapel, located at 2100 West Illinois St. in Evansville, IN. Those who knew him are invited to gather in remembrance of his remarkable life, sharing stories, and celebrating the love he shared with all. Willie D. Bell Jr.'s kindness, humor, and unwavering love will forever be remembered by those who were fortunate enough to know him. His spirit lives on in the hearts of his family and friends, a testament to a life well-lived and a love well-shared. May he rest in peace.
