It is with profound sadness yet deep gratitude for a life richly lived that we announce the passing of William Torres Cubano, who peacefully left us on April 20, 2026. Born on December 10, 1926, in Arecibo, Puerto Rico, William was a beloved son to Juan Valentin Cubano Mendez and Andrea Torres Jimenez. He lived a remarkable 99 years, filled with love, service, and dedication to his family, community, and country. William's life was a testament to the enduring power of love and commitment. On October 13, 1951, he married the love of his life, Blanca Olivo Cubano, in their hometown of Arecibo. Their marriage, spanning over 74 years, was a beacon of devotion and partnership. Together, they raised four wonderful children: William Cubano Jr., Estela Cubano, Alvin Cubano, and Ada C. Fitzpatrick. His legacy continues through his seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren, who will forever cherish his memory. A proud veteran, William served his country with honor in the United States Army from 1946 to 1969, achieving the distinguished rank of Master Sergeant. His valor during the Korean and Vietnam Wars earned him numerous accolades, including the Bronze Star, the Purple Heart, and the Cross of Gallantry Medal, among others. His dedication to his fellow soldiers and his country was unwavering and commendable. Beyond his military service, William was a man of faith and community. For over 40 years, he was a devoted member of the Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus, where he served two terms as President. His faith guided his life, and his leadership inspired many. William possessed an innate ability to fix anything, a skill that served him well in his woodworking and automotive hobbies. His garage was a sanctuary where he would spend countless hours tinkering and creating. He had a deep love for the outdoors, especially tending to his beloved avocado and gandule trees, which flourished under his care. Those who knew William will remember his quick wit, loyalty, and integrity. His kindness and generosity were boundless, touching countless lives and leaving a lasting impact on all who had the privilege of knowing him. He was a man of quiet strength and profound humility, whose presence will be deeply missed but lovingly remembered. A service to celebrate William's life will be held on April 24, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at Stowers Funeral Home, located at 401 W. Brandon Blvd, Brandon, FL 33511. We invite all who knew and loved him to join us in honoring his memory and celebrating the remarkable journey of his life. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in William’s memory to a charity of your choice, reflecting his spirit of giving and service.
