William Toney

William Toney, a beloved husband, devoted father, and cherished friend, passed away on July 26, 2026, at the age of 76. Born on June 30, 1950, in Wilmington, North Carolina, William was a beacon of compassion and strength throughout his life. William was the son of Willie McCray, Sr. and Ethel McCray, who instilled in him the values of kindness, diligence, and integrity. He was predeceased by his sisters, Wilhelmenia Toney, Barbara Toney, and Thomascenia Toney, his brother, James Toney, his daughter, Tamika Patrick Davis, and his nephew, Travis Patterson. Despite these profound losses, William's spirit remained unshaken, and he continued to live a life full of love and generosity. For 43 wonderful years, William was the devoted husband of Barbara J. Patrick Toney. Their enduring partnership was a testament to their deep love and commitment. Together, they created a family rooted in love and resilience. William is survived by his wife, Barbara, their two grandsons, Jamal Patrick and Robert Davis Jr., and his granddaughter, Celeah Davis, who were the light of his life. William's family was extensive, and he cherished his relationships with his siblings. He is survived by his brothers, Leroy Toney and his wife Rochelle of Rocky Mount, N.C., Willie McCray Jr. and his wife Sherry of Clovis, New Mexico, and George Moore of New York. His sisters, Irene Matthews of Baltimore, Maryland, Patricia Young and her husband Raymond of Leland, N.C., Nancy Patterson of Wilmington, N.C., and Vivian Moore of Wilmington, held a special place in his heart. William was also blessed with the companionship of his stepsisters, Edith Hill of Wilmington and Wilhelmenia (Kathy) Martin. William's life will be celebrated at a memorial service on August 5, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Warner Temple. Friends and family are invited to gather and honor the legacy of a man who touched so many lives with his warmth and generosity. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to a charity of your choice in William's memory. His life was a testament to the power of kindness and community, and his legacy will continue to inspire those who knew and loved him. William's spirit will live on in the hearts of his family and friends, who will forever cherish the memories of his gentle smile, his unwavering support, and his boundless love.
