William Thomas Martin

July 2, 1940 — April 5, 2026

It is with profound sadness and deep love that we announce the passing of William Thomas Martin, a cherished father, grandfather, brother, and friend. William peacefully departed this world on April 5, 2026, at the age of 85. Born on July 2, 1940, in Pelham, Georgia, he was the beloved son of the late Willie Thomas Martin and Bertha Barrett. William was a man whose life was defined by dedication, generosity, and a zest for the simple joys of life. Though his formal education was brief, his self-taught mastery as a technician and his entrepreneurial spirit led him to own and operate a successful mobile home specialist business. William’s skills were not confined to the bounds of conventional learning; he possessed the rare talent and tenacity to build his own home from scratch, a testament to his resourcefulness and determination. A proud adherent of the Pentecostal faith, William carried his beliefs in his heart, living a life that exemplified kindness and charity. Known affectionately as a 'speed demon,' his family often joked that it was only his mother's prayers that kept him safe. Despite his love for speed, William was a man of immense generosity, frequently offering his services free of charge to those in need, and readily offering the clothes off his back to anyone requiring assistance. His hands were never idle, as he was always found tinkering with cars, a passion that stayed with him throughout his life. In his earlier years, William found solace in the great outdoors, enjoying hunting and fishing, activities that reflected his love for the simplicity and serenity of country life. This down-to-earth nature made him a beloved figure in his community, where he often extended his helping hand to friends and neighbors, fixing whatever needed repair with a warm smile and unmatched skill. William's life was richly blessed with family. He is survived by his devoted son, William Thomas Martin Jr., and his loving grandchildren, Olivia Martin, Addison Martin, and David Bennett. His siblings, Larry Martin, Harold Martin, Glenda Bollin, and Carolyn Siler, mourn the loss of their beloved brother. Additionally, his faithful companion, Gidget, his side-kick and confidant, will surely miss his gentle company. William’s life, though now concluded, leaves behind a legacy of love, compassion, and an indomitable spirit. He was preceded in death by his parents, Willie and Bertha, his daughter, Sherri Abrams, and grandsons, Tommy Abrams and Kevin Bennett, who undoubtedly greeted him with open arms in the hereafter. A celebration of William's life will be held on April 24, 2026, at 3:00 PM at the Whidden McLean Funeral Home in Bartow. Those who wish to honor his memory and share in the reflection of a life well-lived are warmly invited to attend. William Thomas Martin will forever hold a special place in the hearts of those fortunate enough to have known him. His legacy of kindness and generosity will continue to inspire all who were touched by his remarkable life.
