William Stewat Kunitz

William Stewart Kunitz, a beloved father, grandfather, and entrepreneur, passed away peacefully at a retirement center in Tempe, Arizona, surrounded by love on July 30, 2026. Born on June 1, 1946, in Appleton, Wisconsin, Bill was the cherished son of Robert O. Kunitz and Verdi Stewart Kunitz, who predeceased him. He leaves behind a legacy marked by resilience, determination, and love for his family. In 1956, Bill moved with his family to Farmington, New Mexico, where his parents became esteemed teachers in the local school system. He graduated from Farmington High School in 1965 and pursued further education at the University before transferring to Fort Lewis College in Durango, Colorado. It was during these formative years that Bill developed a passion for welding, which would shape his early career. Bill's professional journey began as a welding specialist with Justice Supply Company in Farmington, where he contributed to various projects, including the assembly of the Farmington Little League Baseball Stadium. His dedication and skill were evident until a life-altering incident occurred while capping a high-pressure gas well, which temporarily blinded him. Despite this setback, Bill's resilience shone through as he recovered and joined forces with his brother, Don, to form Kunitz Construction Company. Together, they developed residential homes, notably in the Cottonwood Heights subdivision, until economic challenges brought an end to their venture. Determined to forge a new path, Bill relocated to Tempe, Arizona, where he founded the Arizona Insurance Agency. Under his guidance, the agency flourished, and he proudly passed the torch to his son, Alric, who continues to operate the business today. Bill's entrepreneurial spirit and commitment to his community left an indelible mark on all who knew him. Bill was a devoted family man, and his greatest joy came from spending time with his three beloved grandchildren. He cherished every moment with them, and his love and wisdom will continue to guide them throughout their lives. In accordance with Bill's wishes, a private funeral ceremony will be held. The family appreciates the outpouring of love and support during this difficult time. In lieu of flowers, they suggest donations be made to the charity of one's choice in Bill's memory. The Kunitz family extends their heartfelt gratitude to all who have shared in Bill's remarkable journey. His spirit will forever live on in the hearts of those who loved him.
