Van's life was a testament to kindness, dedication, and an unwavering love for his family. Growing up in Austin, he was deeply influenced by the strong values and traditions instilled in him by his parents and grandparents, W. Van Thompson Sr. and Mary Elizabeth Thompson. Although preceded in death by his beloved mother, Millie, and his grandparents, their memory and teachings lived on in Van's every action.
Van's journey was marked by his off-beat sense of humor and his gentle wisdom. He was a devoted husband to his cherished wife, Karen Hall-Thompson. Together, they built a life filled with countless memories that will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew them.

His guidance and unwavering support were the foundation upon which their lives were built. Van's brother, Richard MacMullen, also holds dear the countless moments shared, the brotherly bond strengthened by love and mutual respect.
Van's legacy extends beyond his immediate family to a wide circle of friends, colleagues, and caregivers, each touched by his generosity, warmth, and gratitude. In his final days, Van expressed his heartfelt appreciation for the love and support that enveloped him.
