William, affectionately known as Mike, was 88 years old and lived a life rich in love, wisdom, and dedication. Born on July 7, 1937, in Tyler, Texas, to Marie Lallie and Charles Augustine Cooney, Mike was the youngest of four sons. He shared a joyful childhood with his brothers Tom, Gerald, and Raymond, who have all predeceased him. Mike's parents instilled in him the values of hard work, integrity, and kindness, which he carried throughout his life. Mike's academic journey began at Subiaco Academy in Arkansas, where he graduated in 1955. A talented football player, he was recruited to play at the University of Arkansas, where he earned an Engineering degree in 1959. His thirst for knowledge led him to Southern Methodist University, where he obtained a Master’s degree in 1972. The same year he graduated from college, Mike married Barbara Ann McNew, on June 28, 1959, in their hometown of Tyler, Texas. Their marriage was a beautiful testament to love and commitment, spanning nearly 67 years. Together, they built a loving family, raising three wonderful children: Kimmie, Greg, and Carolyn. Mike's family was his pride and joy, and he was a devoted and nurturing father. Mike's career as an engineer was marked by innovation and leadership, yet he always found time for his family and community. His legacy is one of dedication and resilience, traits that he passed on to his seven grandchildren: Kenley, Katy, Charlie, Brock, Bailey, Brody, and Jake, and his three great-grandchildren: Grayson, Owen, and Emma. Mike cherished every moment with them, imparting wisdom and sharing stories that will forever be etched in their hearts. The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the compassionate team at Baylor Scott & White in Plano, whose care and kindness provided comfort during his final days. Friends and family are invited to celebrate Mike's life on June 19, 2026, at 2:00 PM at St. Paul's Catholic Church, located at 720 S. Floyd Road, Richardson, Texas. It will be a time to honor a life well-lived and to share stories of a man who touched the lives of all who knew him.
