William Louis Whitten

June 28, 1949 — March 26, 2026

With heavy hearts and profound gratitude for a life well-lived, we announce the peaceful passing of William Louis Whitten on March 26, 2026, at his beloved home. Born on June 28, 1949, in Columbus, Mississippi, William was a cherished husband, father, grandfather, and friend who left an indelible mark on all who had the privilege of knowing him. William was the son of the late William Preston Whitten and Helen Vienna Whitten, whose love and values shaped the remarkable man he became. He graduated from Lee High School in 1968, and shortly thereafter, answered the call to serve his country, proudly enlisting in the United States Navy. From 1968 to 1971, William served with honor, embodying the spirit of dedication and courage that would define his life. In the spring of 1969, William embarked on the greatest adventure of his life when he married his beloved Gaye Elain Woolbrigt on May 3. Together, they built a life filled with love and laughter, celebrating 56 beautiful years of marriage. Their journey together was blessed with two devoted daughters, Kimberly Whitten Partridge and Ashley Whitten Byrd, who brought immense joy and pride to their lives. William's professional career was marked by over four decades of dedicated service in the telecommunications industry with BellSouth/AT&T. His work ethic and commitment to excellence earned him the respect and admiration of colleagues and clients alike. A man of quick wit and a family-first attitude, William's greatest joy was found in the company of his family. He was a pillar of strength and a source of unwavering support to his children and their spouses, Kimberly and Ashely (Ben), and Susie Ambrosini (Mike) and Dan Whitten. His legacy of love and laughter lives on in his cherished grandchildren: Taylor Marie Byrd, Casey Laine Partridge, William Tate Byrd, Christopher Kage Partridge, and Benjamin Tallon Byrd. He also leaves behind a circle of extended family, including nephews and a niece, who will continue to celebrate his life and memory. Though he is now reunited with his parents, Preston and Helen, William's spirit will forever be a guiding light for those he leaves behind. His family and friends will always remember his steadfast love, infectious humor, and the countless ways he enriched their lives. A celebration of William's life will be held on March 30, 2026, at Wright & Ferguson, located at 123 Cynthia St, Clinton, MS. As we gather to honor his memory, we will remember the laughter, love, and lessons he so generously shared with us all. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in William's memory to a charity of your choice, reflecting his spirit of giving and his dedication to leaving the world a better place. William Louis Whitten will be dearly missed but never forgotten, as his legacy of love and laughter endures in the hearts of all who knew him.
