In Loving Memory

William Lee Shoemaker Jr.
July 28, 1952 — June 6, 2026
It is with heavy hearts and profound sadness that we announce the passing of William Lee Shoemaker Jr., affectionately known as Bill, who departed this world on June 6, 2026, at the age of 73. Born on July 28, 1952, in Atlantic, Iowa, Bill was a beacon of strength and resilience, having valiantly faced the challenges of atrial fibrillation and multiple strokes over the past eight years.
Bill was the cherished son of the late William Lee Shoemaker Sr. and Roma Josephine Carr, both of whom he has now joined in eternal rest. Though he is deeply missed, his legacy is carried forward by his beloved wife, Connie Jean Huntsman Shoemaker, with whom he shared 51 wonderful years of marriage since their union on April 19, 1975. Their love story is one that inspired many, marked by unwavering support and companionship.
Bill's life was enriched by his children, Anthony Lee Shoemaker and Chevy Lee Shoemaker as well as his grandchildren, Victoria Shoemaker, Zack McKague, Logan Shoemaker, Kaitlin Autumn-Rayne Shoemaker, and Colin Lee Shoemaker. Each of them carries forward the lessons he imparted and the love he so generously gave.
A graduate of Mid Buchanan High School, Bill's professional life was marked by his dedication and work ethic. He spent his early years as a truck driver, moving heavy equipment with skill and precision. Later, he transitioned to operating a tractor on a sideboom in the pipeline industry, a role that suited his no-nonsense, straightforward demeanor.
Outside of work, Bill found joy and thrill in racing sprint cars, proudly driving car #90 to victory on numerous occasions. He also enjoyed the adrenaline rush of participating in demolition derbies, with notable wins at the Houston Astrodome. These hobbies were a testament to his adventurous spirit and zest for life.
Known for his candid nature, Bill spoke his mind with honesty and integrity, earning him the reputation of being a man of his word. He was a steadfast friend, loyal to those he loved, and equally fierce when standing up for what he believed in. Yet, beneath his tough exterior lay a heart of gold; he was always willing to lend a helping hand to a stranger in need.
The family extends their deepest gratitude to Good Shepherd Hospice in Cameron, Missouri, for the exceptional care and dignity they provided to Bill in his final days. A special thank you is also extended to Melissa Gibson Woods for the compassionate and loving care she provided to Uncle Bill during his last hours. Your kindness has been a source of comfort to our family, and we are eternally grateful.
As we bid farewell to Bill, we hold onto the memories of a life well-lived and a man dearly loved. May he find peace in the embrace of the heavens, and may his spirit continue to guide and inspire us all. Rest in peace, dear Bill. Your legacy of love, strength, and kindness will forever remain in our hearts.
