William L. Foster "Bill" January 7, 1965 - May 25, 2026 With profound sadness, we announce the passing of William L. Foster, affectionately known to family and friends as "Bill," who departed this life on May 25, 2026, after a courageous battle with cancer—a journey he faced with unwavering strength and grace. Bill was born on January 7, 1965, at Robinson Memorial Hospital in Ravenna, Ohio, a place that would later become a significant part of his life's journey. Bill was a man of immense character, known for his kindness, humor, and dedication to those he loved. He was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Joseph and Louise Foster, and his brother-in-law, Jimi Deffenbaugh. Despite these losses, Bill found immense joy and purpose in the family he was blessed to share his life with. He is survived by his devoted wife, Julie Foster, with whom he celebrated a beautiful marriage on September 12, 1998. Their journey together was filled with love, laughter, and countless cherished memories. Together, Bill and Julie raised a wonderful family, including their children Ian Deffenbaugh, Carol (John) Gape, and Isaac Foster (Ashlie Algaier), who were the pride and joy of his life. Bill's legacy of love and devotion is carried forward by his siblings, Susan Foster, Walter (Lynn) Foster, and Anne (Larry) Wise, along with his in-laws, James (Carol) Deffenbaugh, Shari Munger, and Amy (Mike) Parish. Bill's educational journey began at Southeast High School, where he graduated in 1983, followed by his academic achievements at Hiram College and the University of Akron, where he graduated with honors in 1987 and 1989, respectively. His commitment to service led him to the United States Navy in 1990, where he was commissioned and stationed at the US Naval Hospital in Pensacola and later in Sigonella, Sicily, Italy. Bill often referred to his naval service as "one of the best mistakes I ever made," as it afforded him the opportunity to travel and experience the world in ways he never imagined. Professionally, Bill dedicated 37 and three-quarter years to Robinson Memorial Hospital, a place he was deeply rooted in, serving in various departments with dedication and care. Beyond his career, Bill was an active member of the Immaculate Conception Church in Ravenna and a former member of St. Peter of the Fields in Rootstown. In his youth, he served as a volunteer firefighter and EMT with Hiram and Charlestown, reflecting his lifelong commitment to service and community. Bill was a man of many talents and interests. He found joy in cooking large family dinners alongside his wife, Julie, creating moments of togetherness and love that will forever be cherished by those who gathered around their table. His hobbies included woodworking and crafting, pursuits that allowed him to express his creativity and love for hands-on work. A service to celebrate Bill's life will be held at Immaculate Conception Church on West Main Street in Ravenna, Ohio. In lieu of flowers, Bill's family wishes to honor his spirit by encouraging others to give flowers to someone living, to brighten their day and spread joy—a testament to the way Bill lived his life. William L. Foster was a beloved husband, father, brother, and friend. His warmth, humor, and love will be dearly missed but fondly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him. May his soul rest in peace, embraced by eternal love.
