With heavy hearts, we announce the peaceful passing of William Kenneth Brown, affectionately known as Kenny, on July 16, 2026. Born on June 11, 1944, in Washington, DC, Kenny lived a life filled with warmth, music, and a deep love for family and friends. His journey concluded within the tender care of Hidden Valley Care Center, where he was convalescing in rehabilitation.
Kenny was the cherished son of William B. Brown and Leola Heard Brown. Preceded in death by his beloved grandparents, parents, and sister Verna Lee Blagmon Pratt, Kenny's legacy continues through his godsons Joseph L. Brown, Alexis A. Alexander, Gregory Perkins, Marc Archibald (Treva), and Eldridge Robinson. He is also survived by his nieces, Darlene C. Yarborough and Nadine Redd, and his best friend, Duane Shields. His spirit and love extend to a vibrant host of unrelated nieces, nephews, cousins, brothers, sisters, and friends.
A proud graduate of Spingarn High School, Kenny embarked on his professional journey at the US Treasury Department before dedicating many years to Howard University Hospital, from which he retired. His career was marked by diligence and dedication, reflecting his commitment to serving others.
Kenny’s spiritual life was rich and fulfilling. He began his membership at Buelah Baptist Church in Washington, DC, and later relocated to Anderson, SC, where he worshipped at St. Paul Baptist Church and the Fire Baptized Holiness Church. Upon returning to Washington, DC, he found a spiritual home at New Mt. Olive Baptist Church, where his faith continued to flourish.
Music was the melody of Kenny’s soul. His joy for singing was unparalleled, and he shared his gift with the Jackson Singers of Washington, DC, and the New Mt. Olive Concert Community Choir, among other choirs and groups. His voice was a beacon of joy and inspiration to all who heard it.
Kenny also held a passion for cooking and entertaining, bringing people together with his culinary delights and infectious laughter. His welcoming personality and generous spirit left an indelible mark on everyone who had the pleasure of knowing him.
A celebration of Kenny’s life will be held on July 25, 2026, at 11:00 AM at the Greater New Mt. Olive Baptist Church, located at 710 58th Street, NW, Washington, DC 20019. Family and friends are invited to join in honoring a life lived with grace and love.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to a charity of your choice, reflecting Kenny’s spirit of giving and his commitment to making the world a better place.
Kenny's legacy of love, music, and friendship will forever echo in the hearts of those who were fortunate to know him. His memory will continue to inspire and bring comfort to all who loved him.
