William John Armstrong

William John Armstrong, a beloved father, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully on September 2, 2026, surrounded by the warmth and love of his family and friends. Born on August 29, 1961, in the close-knit community of Danville/Georgetown, Illinois, William's life was a testament to resilience, love, and service. William was the cherished son of Kathryn Lou Armstrong and Leo Toussaint Walker, both of whom preceded him in death. He was also welcomed into eternity by his son, Aveonne Tizay Lillard, Sr.; his granddaughter, Au'breesha Lillard; his maternal grandparents, Thelma B. Armstrong and William 'Pap' Armstrong; and his nephew and niece, Jessie R. Armstrong and Kathryn R. Cooper. A proud veteran, William served with honor in the United States Army, including a notable tour in Germany. His experiences in the military shaped the discipline and dedication that he carried throughout his life. William's legacy lives on in his children: Kayla Armstrong of Las Vegas, Nevada; Teekisha Armstrong of Columbia, South Carolina; and Robair Armstrong of Milwaukee, Wisconsin. He was a devoted grandfather to Aveonne Tizay Lillard, Jr., Meionna Whitaker, and Alexis, Ahjanee, and Alana Armstrong, who will forever hold his memory in their hearts. He is also survived by his loving siblings: Victoria Washington of Atlanta, GA; Tawnya Williams, Nyla Troop, and Yolondalee Cooper-Johnson (Andre) of Racine, WI; and Nishelle Walker, Mark Walker, and Vincent Moses of East St. Louis, IL. Each of them will remember William for his unwavering support and his role as the family's cornerstone. William's life was marked by his passion for helping others and his dedication to his family. He was known for his kind spirit, generous heart, and the ability to bring warmth and laughter to any room. His friends and family will forever remember his infectious smile and the way he touched the lives of everyone he met. A service celebrating William's remarkable life and legacy will be held privately, honoring his wish for an intimate gathering of loved ones. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to a charity of their choice, continuing William's legacy of generosity and compassion. William John Armstrong's journey on this earth has ended, but his spirit will continue to guide and inspire those who knew and loved him.
