It is with heavy hearts and profound gratitude for a life well-lived that we announce the passing of William James Wells, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend. William peacefully departed this world on May 28, 2026, at the age of 87. Born on February 15, 1939, in the quaint town of Martinsville, Virginia, William was the cherished son of Daisy and Arthur Wells, who instilled in him values of integrity, kindness, and hard work.
William was a man of quiet strength and boundless love, leaving an indelible mark on all who were privileged to know him. A man of great wisdom, he navigated life with a gentle humility and a steadfast faith that guided him through both trials and triumphs. His laughter was a balm to the soul, and his stories, rich with the tapestry of his experiences, captivated and inspired those around him.
Having built a beautiful life with his beloved wife, Marry Jean Wells, William shared 56 wonderful years of marriage characterized by unwavering devotion, mutual respect, and a deep, abiding love that served as a testament to all who witnessed their union. Together, they raised three remarkable children: Michele, alongside her husband Bryan; Jennifer; and William, with his wife Bridget. William was also a proud and loving father to his daughter Iris from a previous marriage. His family was his greatest pride, and he dedicated himself to nurturing and guiding them with gentle wisdom and unwavering support.
William's legacy extends to his cherished grandchildren: Nichole, with her husband Freeman; Travis, with his wife Sophia; Derrick, with his wife Brandy; Marcus, with his wife Brittany; Gail, alongside Larry; and Jordan and Jadyn, all of whom he adored deeply. He was also blessed with a bonus son, Nyle, and his wife Joyce, along with a bonus grandson, Hudson, who held a special place in his heart.
Predeceased by his siblings Peggy, Gilbert, Warren, and Norman, William is survived by his loving sister, Ruth Ann, who shared in the joys and sorrows of life with him. He is also remembered fondly by his brothers- and sisters-in-law, as well as a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and great-nephews, each holding a unique piece of his heart.
William's life will be celebrated at a service on June 11, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at the Donald Trimble Mortuary, located at 1876 2nd Ave, Decatur, Georgia, 30032. Friends and family are invited to gather in remembrance of a man whose life was a testament to love, faith, and unwavering dedication to those he held dear.
As we say goodbye to William, we do so with gratitude for the countless memories he leaves behind—a legacy of love and kindness that will continue to resonate in our hearts. Though he is no longer with us in body, William's spirit and enduring love will forever guide those he cherished.
