William Edward Griffin

William Edward Griffin, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully surrounded by the love of his family on June 6, 2026. Born on August 1, 1945, in the serene town of Black Mountain, North Carolina, William's journey through life was a testament to love, hard work, and the joy of simple pleasures. William was the cherished son of Loree Griffin, who predeceased him, along with his grandparents, Jerry Daniel Sr. and Allaveretta Daniel. Raised in a loving household, William's humble beginnings instilled in him a deep appreciation for family, a value he carried with him throughout his life. In 1960, William made the bold move from North Carolina to Evanston, Illinois, a decision that would forever change his life. It was there he met his soulmate, Mary Jean Ball. Their love story began with exchanged glances and blossomed into a lifelong commitment when they married on December 4, 1965. William often expressed his love for Mary through heartfelt letters, a testament to his romantic spirit. William's career started with the determined hands of a crossroad truck driver. Yet, beyond the wheel, he found immense joy and creativity in the kitchen, discovering a love for cooking that would nourish both his family and his soul. A man of many talents, William found serenity in fishing, the challenge of a good golf game, and the beauty of a well-tended garden. His yard was a reflection of his meticulous nature and love for the Earth. With a voice that could uplift, he sang gospel songs, bringing comfort and joy to those around him. He also painted, capturing the world through his unique lens during his downtime. William was a devoted father to his children, Antonio (Kelly), Brian (Deb), Stacy (Fellie) McKnight, and Tarellus (Nikkia), each of whom he loved unconditionally. His legacy continues through his nine grandchildren, Keenan, Quintin, Devin, Jalen, Hailey, Lawren, Quincy, Kyndel, and T'Naye, and his three great-grandchildren, Aaliyah, Terrell, and Lily, who will forever remember his wisdom and warmth. He is survived by his loving wife, Mary, who stood by his side through every season of life. His family circle extends to his dear aunt, Betty Washington, special cousins Terry Daniel and Florence Sales, his brother-in-law John (Sandy) Ball, and five sisters-in-law, Juanita Griffin, Modenia Graves, Cerecia Buchanan, Ruth Ball, and AnnieBell Ball, along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. William will be remembered for his kindness, his laughter, and the love he shared with all who knew him. A celebration of his life will be held on June 13, 2026, at 12:00 PM at the Christian Valley Baptist Church, where family and friends will gather to honor a life well-lived. In remembering William, we celebrate a life filled with love, laughter, and the simple joys that make life beautiful. He leaves behind a legacy of compassion and strength, one that will continue to inspire those who knew him.
