William Earl Utsler

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of William Earl Utsler, a beloved father, son, brother, and friend, who left this world on October 5, 2026, at the University of Iowa Hospital and Clinics. Born on August 24, 1991, in Waterloo, Iowa, William was a beacon of light to all who knew him, and his joyful spirit will be dearly missed. William was the cherished son of Shane and Michelle Utsler. He grew up surrounded by the love of his family in Iowa, graduating from East High School, where he formed friendships that lasted throughout his life. William was a talented and passionate cook, sharing his culinary skills at various establishments around the Cedar Valley. His love for cooking was only matched by his love for bringing happiness to those around him, whether through his delicious meals or his infectious laughter. A man of diverse interests, William found joy in video games, amusement parks, and comics. He was a Marvel movies super-fan, always eager to immerse himself in the stories of heroes and adventures. Yet, above all, William treasured the time spent with his children, Alexa, Raegan, and Jaxson, who were the light of his life. His dedication to his family was unwavering, and he relished every moment shared with them, as well as with his extended family and friends. William's kind-hearted nature and happy-go-lucky personality brought smiles and laughter wherever he went. He had an extraordinary gift for finding joy in life's simplest moments, never needing much to be content. His bright and joyful spirit left an indelible mark on those who were fortunate enough to know him. He is survived by his beloved children, Alexa, Raegan, and Jaxson, all of Waterloo, IA; his parents, Michelle (Kevin) Richardson of Waterloo, IA, and Shane (Stacy) Utsler of Hudson, IA; his brother, Andrew Utsler (April) of Waverly, IA; his sister, Amber Utsler of Waterloo, IA; step-brother Austin Howard of Hudson, IA; Blake Becker (Hannah) of Waterloo, IA; Chloe Utsler of Hudson, IA,Grand- parents,Terry”Pops” and Joycee Utsler of Waterloo, IA and many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends who will miss him dearly. The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to everyone for their prayers, love, support, and kindness during this difficult time. Every phone call, message, visit, prayer, and thoughtful gesture has meant more than words can express. "A life may be short, but the love it leaves behind can last forever." In lieu of flowers, the family welcomes donations in William's memory to a charity of your choice, as a way to honor his generous spirit and love for helping others.
