William E. Fitzgerald

March 6, 1946 — July 26, 2026

William E. Fitzgerald, a beloved husband, father, uncle, and friend, passed away peacefully on July 26, 2026, at the age of 80. Born on March 6, 1946, in San Francisco, William was the cherished son of Thomas and Lorraine Fitzgerald. He was preceded in death by his parents and his siblings, Robert and Denise, leaving behind a legacy of love and dedication that will be dearly missed. William is survived by his devoted wife, Beverly, with whom he shared 33 beautiful years of marriage. Together, they built a life filled with joy and laughter, raising their beloved daughter, Kimberly. His nephews, Brian (Patty) and Andrew (Michele), also survive him, and they will forever hold in their hearts the fond memories of their dear uncle. A proud veteran, William served the United States with honor as a gunner in the Navy during the Vietnam War. His bravery and commitment were recognized with the awarding of a Purple Heart. This sense of duty and integrity continued throughout his career at the US Department of Treasury Mint in San Francisco, where he dedicated 36 years of service. Retiring in 2001, William was celebrated for his significant contributions and numerous recognitions that marked his career. William’s love for life was evident in everything he did. Whether hitting the golf course, cheering for the San Francisco 49ers, or spending time with family and friends, his enthusiasm was infectious. He was also known to enjoy an occasional visit to the casino, where his knack for storytelling and laughter could light up the room. To those who knew him, William was the one you could count on to fix anything, to offer a helping hand, and to provide a sense of safety and comfort. His quiet strength, generous spirit, and humble soul left an indelible mark on all who were fortunate enough to know him. His presence was a source of warmth, and his gentle love was a gift to his family and friends. William’s life will be celebrated on August 14, 2026, at 11:00 AM at the Jess C. Spencer Mortuary, located at 21228 Redwood Road, Castro Valley, CA. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to a charity of your choice in William's memory, reflecting his lifelong commitment to helping others. As we say goodbye to William, we remember the laughter he shared, the stories he told, and the love he gave so freely. Though he may no longer be with us in body, his spirit and legacy will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.

May the road rise to meet you. May the wind be always at your back. May the sun shine warm upon your face, the rains fall soft upon your fields. And until we meet again, may God hold you in the palm of His hand.
