William Douglas Johnston lV

William Douglas Johnston IV, a vibrant soul known for his creativity and deep compassion, passed away on July 31, 2026, at the age of 34. Born on February 22, 1992, in Battle Creek, Michigan, William brought joy and inspiration to all who knew him. William was the cherished son of Gilda Brashers and the late William D. Johnston III. His father’s legacy and the love of his mother, Gilda Denise, along with his stepfather, Floyd Brashers, shaped the man he became. He was also the beloved nephew of Assami D. Johnston, and was surrounded by the love of his aunts Sabrina (Jackson) Todd, Michelle Jackson, and Gina Jackson, and his uncles, Gilbert Jackson and Derek Jackson. A graduate of Community High School, William pursued his passion for the arts at Kellogg Junior College. His natural talent for creativity was evident in everything he did, from his artistic endeavors to his role as the first male flagman for the Marching Band at Central High School in Battle Creek, Michigan. William dedicated his career to helping others, working as a supervisor and certified Medical Assistant at Kambly AFC and Spectrum Health Care. His kindness and empathy extended beyond his professional life into his personal one, where he served as a counselor at Tall Turf Christian Youth Camp, guiding young minds and sharing his love for life. Baptized at Community Baptist Church in Battle Creek, Michigan, under the guidance of Pastor S. Williams, William's faith was a cornerstone of his life. He found solace and strength in his spiritual community and was deeply committed to his beliefs. His extended family, including a host of cousins from Michigan, Chicago, Cleveland, Painesville, Ohio, and South Carolina, will forever remember William for his artistic spirit and loving heart. Though he had no children of his own, his legacy lives on in the countless lives he touched. A celebration of William's life will take place on August 21, 2026, at Whitley Funeral Home, located at 303 Balch St, Kalamazoo, Michigan. The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to Bloggett Hospital and Whitley Funeral Home for their support during this difficult time. They also wish to acknowledge the special bond William shared with his God Aunts, Nancy Brown of Detroit and Sabrina Whitney. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to the American Diabetes Association in memory of William Douglas Johnston IV, supporting ongoing research and assistance for those affected by diabetes. William will be dearly missed, yet his spirit and love will remain in the hearts of all who were fortunate to know him.
