It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of William Dewey Zimmer Sr., a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, who departed this world on May 15, 2026. Born on October 28, 1946, in Waterloo, Iowa, William left this life peacefully at home, surrounded by his cherished family, who were the cornerstone of his existence. William was the treasured son of the late Joseph M. Zimmer Sr. and Hattie M. Weekley. He was predeceased by his dear parents, his sister Mary Hart, and his brother Joseph Zimmer Jr., all of whom he held close to his heart throughout his life. On July 18, 1964, William married the love of his life, Vicki L. Wildeboer. Together, they built a beautiful life filled with love and shared adventures over their remarkable 61 years of marriage. Their union was blessed with two children, Thresa (Ken) Allen and William Zimmer Jr., who were constant sources of pride and joy for William. William’s legacy continues through his grandchildren Eddy Allen, Mike Allen, David Zimmer, and Jamie (Michael) Calenda, and his great-grandchildren Mandy Allen, Hunter Calenda, Hannah Calenda, Henry Calenda, and Stetson Zimmer. His family was the light of his life, and he took immense joy in watching them grow and succeed. He will be dearly missed by his sisters Elizabeth Card and Pauline (Kent) Card, and his many nieces and nephews, who often found themselves enveloped in his imaginative sense of humor and warmth. A proud veteran, William served his country with honor in the United States Army. Following his military service, he dedicated his career to Honeywell as a Facilities Maintenance Analyst, where he worked diligently until his retirement in 2001. Beyond his professional accomplishments, William was a man of simple pleasures. He found immense joy in spending time with his family, who were his greatest treasures. He and Vicki shared many happy trips together, exploring new places and creating memories that will be cherished forever. William was a man known for his imaginative sense of humor and his genuine interest in the lives of those around him. He relished every story he could share about his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, always eager to celebrate their achievements and milestones. In honor of William’s life and his compassionate spirit, the family kindly requests that donations be made to St. Jude’s, an organization close to his heart. As we bid farewell to William, we remember a life well-lived and a man deeply loved. His spirit, kindness, and laughter will forever echo in the hearts of those who knew him. Rest in peace, dear William, knowing you have left an indelible mark on our lives and will be eternally missed.
