It is with heavy hearts and cherished memories that we announce the passing of William Cartwright, who left this world on October 24, 2026, at the age of 95. Born on May 12, 1931, in the quaint town of Old Trap, North Carolina, William was the beloved son of Oscar and Edna Cartwright. William's life was a testament to dedication, kindness, and service. He proudly served his community as a Chesapeake Fireman, rising through the ranks to retire as a respected battalion chief. His career was marked not only by his professional accomplishments but by the profound impact he had on his colleagues and the community he served. A man of deep compassion and unwavering generosity, William had a remarkable gift for making everyone feel welcome. His love, kindness, and generous spirit touched the lives of all who crossed his path. He was a member of the Shriners, where he further extended his commitment to helping others and making the world a better place. William was predeceased by his loving parents, Oscar and Edna Cartwright, as well as his cherished sister, Audry Lane. He is survived by his devoted wife of 65 years, Barbara Cartwright, who stood by his side through life's many adventures. Together, they built a loving family, including their children Judy Pierce, Glen ‘Pete’ (Kathi), and Darrell. William's legacy continues through his numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who will forever carry his spirit in their hearts. In honoring William's memory, the family kindly asks that donations be made to a charity of your choice, as a tribute to his life of selflessness and service.
