In Loving Memory

William Carter Thatcher
January 28, 1947 — March 21, 2026
With heavy hearts and profound sadness, we announce the passing of William Carter Thatcher, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. William departed this world peacefully on March 21, 2026, at his home in Johns Creek, GA, after a courageous battle with Cutaneous T-cell lymphoma. He was 79 years old.
Born in the spirited city of Chattanooga, TN, on January 28, 1947, William was the cherished son of Richard and Martha Thatcher, who preceded him in death. He carried their legacy forward with honor, grace, and an unwavering commitment to kindness and service.
William, known affectionately as Bill to his friends and family, was a beacon of warmth and compassion. He was a man whose heart was as vast as his interests. He served with distinction in the Peace Corps, dedicating his early years to building bridges and fostering understanding among diverse cultures. This experience cultivated a lifelong love for travel, and he often regaled his family with stories from far-off lands, instilling in them a sense of adventure and a respect for all cultures.
An avid golfer, Bill found immense joy on the green, where he spent countless mornings perfecting his swing, often in the good company of friends new and old. His love for sports extended beyond the golf course, and he was a fervent supporter of all athletic endeavors. Whether cheering from the stands or coaching local youth teams, his enthusiasm was infectious.
But perhaps what set Bill apart was his extraordinary ability to build and nurture relationships. He was a talkative soul, always eager to engage, listen, and empathize. His generosity knew no bounds, and he was a steadfast protector of those he loved. His kind and attentive nature endeared him to everyone he met, leaving an indelible mark on their hearts.
William is survived by his devoted wife, Gladys, who stood by his side with unwavering love throughout their journey together. His legacy lives on through his children, Sandra (and her husband, Mike), Chris (and his wife, Maria), Willy (and his wife, Nathaly), and Ricky (and his wife, Eliana). He was the proud grandfather to six bright and beautiful grandchildren: Alex, Lucas, Camila, Julieta, Hannah, and Yvanna, who brought immense joy and laughter to his life.
Bill also leaves behind his beloved brothers, Richard and Gary, who shared in his life's adventures and memories. Their bond was a testament to the strength of family and the power of unconditional love.
As we mourn his passing, we also celebrate the remarkable life William lived—a life filled with love, service, and an unwavering commitment to making the world a better place. He leaves behind a legacy of kindness and generosity that will be carried forward by those who had the privilege of knowing him.
In honor of William's memory, the family invites those who knew him to a celebration of his life on March 30, 2026, at the Johns Creek Community Center. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Cutaneous Lymphoma Foundation or a charity of your choice, reflecting Bill's generous spirit and his lifelong dedication to helping others.
William Carter Thatcher was more than just a loving husband, father, and friend. He was a guiding light, a mentor, and a source of unwavering support. His spirit will live on in the hearts of all who knew him, a testament to a life well-lived and a man deeply loved. May he rest in peace.
