It is with heavy hearts and profound gratitude for a life well-lived that we announce the passing of William Campbell, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend. Born on February 15, 1936, in New York, William passed away peacefully on June 7, 2026, after a courageous battle with cancer, surrounded by the love of his family. William was the cherished son of John and Elma Campbell, who instilled in him the values of kindness, humility, and hard work that he carried throughout his life. These values became the foundation of the man he was and the life he lived. In Susan, William found the love of his life and his lifelong partner. Together, they crafted a marriage that was a testament to loyalty, laughter, and unwavering devotion. Their home was a place of warmth and guidance, where they raised five children and welcomed countless joyful moments that wove the fabric of their family’s foundation. Their partnership was an exemplary model of commitment, supporting each other through every season of life and taking immense pride in the family legacy they nurtured together. William’s career as a locomotive engineer was marked by dedication and respect for the powerful machines he guided across New York's rail lines. Known among his colleagues for his calm and steady presence, he navigated the rails like an old friend, ensuring each journey was safe and every arrival was part of his honorable legacy. His contribution to keeping communities connected was a source of great pride. A man of deep faith, William was a devoted member of his church, where he found community and purpose. His life was a living testament to his beliefs, expressed through acts of kindness, humility, and a quiet generosity that left a lasting impact on all who knew him. His involvement in church activities, his supportive presence, and his unwavering faith will be dearly missed by his congregation. William found joy in life’s simple pleasures, whether perfecting his golf swing, losing himself in a good book, or passionately discussing baseball with friends and family. These hobbies brought him joy, connection, and a sense of peace, approached with the same curiosity and enthusiasm that defined his life. Those who knew William will remember him for his gentle spirit, steady presence, and the comfort he provided simply by being near. His quiet strength and patient heart were complemented by a subtle but unforgettable sense of humor. His generosity often manifested in small, significant ways—always listening more than speaking, working hard without seeking praise, and treating everyone with respect. His wisdom was not spoken but lived, rooted in kindness, humility, and integrity. William is survived by his loving wife, Susan, their five children, 12 grandchildren, and 24 great-grandchildren, all of whom carry forward his legacy of love and strength. To his family, he leaves behind a legacy of quiet wisdom and an enduring love. Though his absence will be deeply felt, his life lessons, shared laughter, and boundless love will continue to live on in each of them. A service to celebrate William’s life will be held on June 9, 2026, at 2:00 PM at 1247 Westchester Ridge Drive, Scarsdale, NY 10583. We invite all who knew him to join us in honoring a life that was full, impactful, and deeply loved. In this time of reflection, may we find comfort in knowing that William’s life was marked by love and integrity, and his impact will be felt for generations to come. His love remains with us always, a guiding light through our own journeys.
