William served his country with honor and pride as a member of the US Army, embodying the spirit of dedication and bravery. His service is remembered with deep respect and appreciation. Known for his big personality and quick wit, William possessed a unique gift for making people smile. His silly sense of humor and playful spirit were infectious, always able to lighten the mood and bring joy to those around him. Whether he was playfully teasing family members or sharing one of his many funny stories, William's laughter and warm presence were cherished by all. William's love for driving and traveling was well-known, and he could often be found exploring the open roads in his beloved Lincoln cars, often accompanied by his dear friend Mary. He also had a passion for music, particularly jazz, and enjoyed attending concerts that filled his soul with rhythm and joy. A devoted member of his church, William's faith was a cornerstone of his life. He found great happiness in being surrounded by the people he loved most, especially during family gatherings where laughter and shared memories were abundant. William treasured these moments with his grandchildren, creating a legacy of love that will be remembered and cherished forever. William is survived by his loving daughter, Tannishia Sims, his devoted son, William Smith, and a multitude of grandchildren and great-grandchildren who brought immense joy to his life. He joins in eternal rest his parents, William H. Smith and Majorie Nicholson, and his cherished grandson, Curtis Smith, who predeceased him. The family invites all who knew and loved William to join them in celebrating his life on May 21, 2026, at 12:00 PM at Knox Chapel in Rock Island, Illinois. Steven Sims, Stephon Smith, Mark Medows, Henry Sims, and Tyrone McGinnis will serve as pallbearers, honoring William's memory with love and respect. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to William's cherished church or a charity of choice, in tribute to a man who brought so much joy and laughter into the lives of others. William C. Smith's legacy of humor, love, and faith will live on in the hearts of his family and friends. His laughter will continue to echo in cherished memories, and his warm spirit will be deeply missed but never forgotten.
