In Loving Memory

William C Johnston
June 11, 1935 — June 7, 2026
It is with a mixture of sorrow and fond remembrance that we announce the passing of William C. Johnston, who departed this world peacefully at his home on June 7, 2026, just shy of his 91st birthday. Born on June 11, 1935, in the picturesque town of Aiken, South Carolina, William was a beacon of warmth and kindness throughout his long and fulfilling life.
William was the beloved son of William Johnston and Wilma Johnston, who instilled in him values of integrity and compassion that he carried throughout his days. He was predeceased by his cherished sisters, Emma Collum and Diane Clary, and his dear brother, Tony Johnston—a family reunion now graced by his gentle presence in the hereafter.
A devoted husband, William shared 54 beautiful years with his loving wife, a partnership marked by unwavering support and mutual respect. Together, they nurtured a family that would become William's greatest legacy. He is survived by his children: Eva Stalnaker, Julie Sevier, Bill Johnston, Karl Stomberg, and Jenni Stomberg, each of whom carries forward his zest for life and his generous spirit.
William's family extended far beyond his immediate kin to include 15 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. Their lives were enriched by his stories and the twinkle in his eye that always hinted at an adventure just around the corner. To them, he was not just a patriarch but a guiding light whose love knew no bounds.
Known for his love of people and his remarkable ability to make everyone feel important, William had a gift for seeing the best in others and bringing it to the surface. His friendship was a treasure, and his laughter, a melody that could lift the spirits of those around him.
In addition to his family and friends, William had a passion for golf and tennis, sports that mirrored his approach to life: strategic yet full of joy, competitive yet gracious. Whether on the green or the tennis court, he exuded a vitality that was infectious, drawing others to him with ease.
As we say goodbye to a man who was so deeply cherished, we hold fast to the memories he created with us—memories filled with laughter, love, and a sense of belonging. William C. Johnston's life was a testament to the power of kindness, and his legacy will forever be etched in the hearts of all who knew him.
A private family service will be held to honor his memory. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to a charity of one's choice in William's name, a fitting tribute to a man whose life was spent in giving.
Rest in peace, dear William. Your spirit lives on in the stories we share and the love we continue to spread in your name.
