William Blount

March 4, 1956 — September 30, 2026

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of William Blount, fondly known as "Buddy" to those who loved him. William departed this world on September 30, 2026, at Edenton Hospital, surrounded by the comforting embrace of peace and love. He was born on March 4, 1956, in Washington County, where he spent a lifetime creating cherished memories. William was the beloved son of Ruth Blount and Herman Norman Jr., both of whom predeceased him. He was also preceded in death by his dear grandmother, Ernestine Wooten, his brother Thomas Blount, and his sister Mary Blount Smith. His absence will be deeply felt by his surviving family members, including his niece Michele Blount and his sister Jackie Bell. He also leaves Janice Norman along with a host of cousins, who shared in the joys and sorrows of his life. A proud graduate of Washington County High School, William spent his career working in agriculture and various other small jobs. His work ethic and dedication were evident in every task he undertook. Beyond his professional life, he found immense joy in the simple pleasures of fishing, a passion he lovingly shared with his mother by his side. Though known for his moody demeanor, those close to him understood that his bark was far worse than his bite. William had a unique way of expressing his love, often offering advice with a kind heart hidden beneath his gruff exterior. He was a man who cherished his family deeply and always had a story or a lesson to impart. The family would also like to express their heartfelt gratitude to the staff and patients at Chowan River Nursing Home, especially his roommate Lamont, for their unwavering support and companionship during William's time there. As we say goodbye to our dear Buddy, let us remember him for his kindness, his love for family and friends, and the many ways he touched our lives. He leaves behind a legacy of love and resilience that will continue to inspire those who knew him.

In lieu of flowers, the family of William Blount welcomes donations to a charity, nonprofit, church, or organization of your choosing.

I'LL Fly AWAY

Some glad morning when this life is o'er, I'll fly away; To a home on God's celestial shore, I'll fly away (I'll fly away). I'll fly away, Oh glory I'll fly away; (in the morning) when I die, Hallelujah, by and by, I'll fly away (I'll fly away). When the shadows of this life have gone, I'll fly away; like a bird from prison bars has flown, I'll fly away (I'll fly away). Just a few more weary days and then, I'll fly away; To a land where joy shall never end, I'll fly away (I'LL FLY AWAY)

Special Thanks

The family of William Blount extends heartfelt gratitude for your prayers, support, and kindness during this time. Special thanks to Cynthia Heckstall, Cynthia Bell and the Norman family. Thanks
