William “Billy” Brown

July 26, 1945 — May 13, 2026

It is with heavy hearts and profound sadness that we announce the passing of William “Billy” Brown, who peacefully departed this world on May 13, 2026, at the age of 80, after a courageous battle with Parkinson’s disease. Surrounded by his loving family, Billy left behind a legacy of kindness, humor, and unwavering faith that will forever reside in the hearts of those who knew him. Born on July 26, 1945, in Richmond, Virginia, Billy was the cherished son of the late William “Bill” and Mildred Brown. As a young man, he graduated from Manchester High School in 1963, embarking on a journey of service and learning. He proudly served his country in the Air Force, a testament to his enduring commitment to protect and serve. Billy’s thirst for knowledge never waned, and in 1998, he graduated from Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU), marking a significant milestone in his life's journey. He dedicated 30 years of his career as an electronics technician with Verizon, where his meticulous work ethic and innovative spirit left an indelible mark on the industry and his colleagues. For the past two decades, Billy was an active and beloved member of Fine Creek Baptist Church in Powhatan. His deep faith and dedication to service were evident in his role as a Deacon and his involvement in the church’s homeless ministry, where he tirelessly worked to help those in need find shelter, hope, and faith. Before Parkinson’s altered his physical capabilities, Billy found great joy in the simple pleasures of life. He relished the freedom of riding his bicycle and the tranquility of kayaking. Music was another of his passions; he was an accomplished musician who played both the guitar and the dulcimer, filling his home with melodies that echoed his joyful spirit. Billy was a man of many talents, but it was his great sense of humor that endeared him to all. Known for his quick wit and ability to brighten any room with laughter, Billy’s jokes and humor will be fondly remembered by those who had the privilege of sharing in his life. His faith was a cornerstone of his being, and he was devoted to helping others find and nurture their own spiritual paths. He is survived by his beloved children, Amy, Jonathan, and Laurie (Jim); his dear sister, Joan; and a treasure of grandchildren and great-grandchildren who brought immense joy to his life. Billy was predeceased by his loving parents, William “Bill” and Mildred Brown, who undoubtedly welcomed him home with open arms. The family extends their deepest gratitude to the special caregivers who provided care and companionship to Billy over the past two and a half years. Your compassion and dedication were a blessing to Billy and his family during this challenging time. A celebration of Billy’s life will be held at Fine Creek Baptist Church, where friends and family will gather to honor a life well-lived and a man deeply loved. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in Billy’s memory to the Parkinson’s Foundation or Fine Creek Baptist Church’s homeless ministry, continuing his legacy of faith and service. Billy Brown will forever be remembered as a devoted father, a loving brother, a playful grandfather, and a steadfast friend. His legacy of laughter, love, and faith will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. Rest in peace, dear Billy. You were a blessing to us all.
