William "Bill" Hendrik Derksen, a cherished father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully on May 8, 2026, at the age of 80. Born on July 22, 1945, in Dayton, Ohio, Bill lived a life marked by service, dedication, and love, leaving behind a legacy that will be fondly remembered by all who knew him. Bill was the beloved son of the late John and Virginia Derksen and grew up in a bustling household as one of nine siblings. He was predeceased by his parents, his sisters, Ruth Fisher, Marilyn Matheny, and Carol Derksen, and his brothers, David, Frank, and John Derksen, and beloved Aunt Marilyn and Uncle Hank Derksen. Despite the family's large size, the bonds between them were strong, a testament to the love and values instilled by their parents. A proud graduate of Northridge High School in 1963, Bill's early life was defined by a sense of duty and commitment, leading him to serve his country with profound honor, pride, and respect in the United States Navy. From 1964 to 1968, Bill completed two tours in Vietnam, showcasing bravery and dedication that would characterize his entire life. Following his military service, Bill returned to civilian life with a wealth of knowledge and experience, particularly in the mechanical and electrical fields. His vast expertise, coupled with a quick wit and a gruff yet kind nature, made him a beloved figure in his community. Always willing to lend a hand to those in need, Bill's generosity and wisdom left a lasting impact on those fortunate enough to cross his path. Bill's personal life was enriched by his deep love for his family. He is survived by his children, Theresa Lynn Yount and William Herbert Derksen, who carry forward his values and spirit. His legacy continues through his grandchildren, Cody Yount, Bradley Yount, Ashley Yount, and Ryan Derksen, and his great-grandchildren, Brylee, Brinleigh, Bexley, Olivia, Andrew, Melanie, and Nora. Each of them carries a piece of Bill's heart and spirit, ensuring his memory lives on for generations. In addition to his immediate family, Bill is survived by his siblings, Harriet Christopher and Charles Derksen, who shared countless cherished memories with him throughout his life. He also leaves behind a close family friend, Aaron Michael, who was like family to him as well as many close and dear cousins and their spouses. Bill found joy in the simple pleasures of life. His love for old westerns, whether shows or movies, was well known, and he spent many contented hours immersed in his puzzle books. These hobbies reflected a man who valued both the excitement of the frontier and the quiet satisfaction of solving a problem. As we bid farewell to Bill, we remember him not just for his accomplishments and service, but for the warmth and kindness he showed to everyone around him. His life was a testament to courage, love, and the enduring power of family. Bill will be deeply missed but forever remembered in the hearts of those who loved him.
