William Alton Stewart Jr.

William Alton Stewart Jr., a compassionate soul and beloved member of his community, passed away peacefully in his sleep on July 17, 2026. Born on November 11, 1960, in Lodge, South Carolina, William lived a life marked by unwavering kindness and a profound dedication to helping those in need. William was the cherished son of the late William Stewart Sr. and Tamer Stewart and was predeceased by his brother, Jerry Stewart. He is survived by his loving sister Naomi Smith, as well as dear friends Roy Walters, Kathy Garcia, and Doris Saunders, who will forever hold him close in their hearts. William's journey of service and compassion began in his education at Ruffin High School in Ruffin, South Carolina. He continued to embody these values throughout his career, dedicating his life to the care and well-being of others. William spent many years as a caregiver at a children's shelter in Queens, New York, where his gentle spirit and nurturing nature left an indelible mark on countless young lives. Later, he extended his caring heart to older adults in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, where he provided comfort and companionship to those in their twilight years. An avid track and field enthusiast, William found joy and freedom in the sport, channeling his energy and dedication into every race. However, it was his passion for helping others that truly defined him. His selflessness and generous spirit were an inspiration to all who knew him. A service to celebrate and honor William's life will be held on August 18, 2026, at 12:02 p.m. at the McCune Branch Baptist Church Cemetery in Lodge, South Carolina. Family and friends are invited to gather in remembrance of a man who touched so many lives with his kindness and compassion. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to a charity of their choice, continuing William's legacy of helping others and making the world a better place. William Alton Stewart Jr. will be remembered for his warmth, his unwavering dedication to those in need, and the love he shared with everyone around him.
