William Albert Meinders

In loving memory of William Albert Meinders, who passed away peacefully after a brief illness, surrounded by the love of his family and friends, just days shy of his 100th birthday. William was born on September 2, 1926, in Freeport, Illinois, to William and Eunice Meinders. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, whose warmth and charm left an indelible mark on everyone who had the privilege of knowing him. William's journey through life was marked by dedication and service. At a young age, he answered the call to serve his country, enlisting in the U.S. Navy during World War II. From 1943 to 1945, he bravely served in the South Pacific and was awarded the Purple Heart Medal for his valor and sacrifice. After the war, William returned home and pursued a career as a barber, a profession that would bring him great joy and fulfillment for three decades. He attended barber school in Decatur, Illinois, and in 1953, opened Bill's Barber Shop in Pecatonica, Illinois. Known affectionately by everyone in town, William's shop was a place of camaraderie and community, where stories were shared, and friendships were forged. In 1950, William married his beloved Rosemary Busch, with whom he shared a beautiful life until her passing. Together, they raised their family in Pecatonica, where they instilled values of love, kindness, and resilience in their three sons, William, Mark, and Lindsay. In retirement, William and Rosemary embarked on a new chapter, traveling across the United States before settling in Mesa, Arizona. William was a man of deep faith and community involvement, finding solace and friendship as a member of Saint Mary's Catholic Church and the American Legion in Pecatonica. His love for the big band era was evident in his passion for music and dancing, which brought joy to his heart and a spring to his step. He is mourned and lovingly remembered by his sons, William, Mark (Pam), and Lindsay (Rebecca), his cherished grandchildren, Ethan and Sherry, and his dear friend, Cheri. He was predeceased by his devoted wife, Rosemary, his sisters Shirley and Nina, and his parents. A visitation will be held at McCorkle Funeral Home, Pecatonica, Saturday September 5th at 10:00 am. Funeral ceremony to follow at 11:00 am. William Albert Meinders leaves behind a legacy of love, service, and community. His memory will continue to live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him. May he rest in eternal peace, reunited with his beloved Rosemary and surrounded by the music he so adored.
