Willena Jean (Bonner) Dillinger

With profound sadness and deep appreciation for a life well-lived, we announce the passing of Willena Jean (Bonner) Dillinger, who departed this world peacefully on July 20, 2026, at the age of 98. Born on June 13, 1928, in Hackleburg, Alabama, Jean's life was a testament to love, dedication, and service. Jean was preceded in death by her parents, Madison and Leota Burleson Bonner; her son, David Dillinger; her former spouse, Wendall J. Dillinger; and her beloved sisters, Frieda Bagwell and Yvonne Garvin. She is survived by her devoted son, Neil J. Dillinger, and his wife Lisa; her cherished grandchildren, Jessica Dillinger Cannon and Robert E. Dillinger; and her precious great-grandchildren, Anslee Wyatt, Parker Dillinger, and Oliver Cannon. Jean's educational journey was marked by her relentless pursuit of knowledge. She earned a Bachelor's degree in Education from the University of Alabama and later, a Master's degree in English from Butler University. Her commitment to education translated into a fulfilling career as an elementary school teacher in the Carmel Clay school district, where she touched countless young lives over a span of more than 30 years. Beyond her professional achievements, Jean was a proud veteran, having served as a First Lieutenant during the Korean War from 1951 to 1957. Her service was a reflection of her unyielding dedication to her country and her community. Jean's life was enriched by her numerous passions and talents. She was an accomplished dancer, honored with awards for her grace and skill. Her love for music was evident as she played the French horn for the University of Alabama's Million Dollar Band. An adventurous spirit, Jean was a certified scuba diver who once explored the depths of the Great Barrier Reef in Australia. Her love for travel took her on many cruises and journeys around the world. A woman of deep faith, Jean was a devoted member of the Kingsway Christian Church, where she taught Bible classes and actively participated in church activities. Her generosity extended beyond her immediate community, as she contributed to numerous charitable organizations, reflecting her compassionate heart and desire to make a difference. Jean's legacy is one of love, strength, and inspiration. She will be dearly missed by her family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing her. In honor of her memory, the family requests that donations be made to the American Diabetes Association, a cause close to Jean's heart. A private funeral service will be held to celebrate Jean's remarkable life, in accordance with her wishes. Her memory will continue to live on in the hearts of those she touched, as we celebrate the extraordinary woman she was.
