Wilford Underwood Jr., a beloved father, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully on July 8, 2026, at the age of 81. Born on August 2, 1944, in Spartanburg, South Carolina, Wilford was the cherished son of the late Wilford Underwood Sr. and Ada Caroline Underwood. He was a beacon of strength and kindness to all who knew him.
Wilford's roots were firmly planted in Spartanburg, where he attended Carver High School. After his schooling, he answered the call to serve his country with distinction in the United States Army, a testament to his dedication and patriotism.
For over fifty years, Wilford worked as a brick mason, a craft he perfected with skill and respect. His work can be seen throughout the community, standing as a lasting tribute to his dedication and craftsmanship. In every brick he laid, there was a part of Wilford, a testament to his hard work and commitment.
A man of deep faith, Wilford was a devoted member of Community Baptist Church, where he found joy in fellowship and service. His faith guided him throughout his life, offering strength and solace during challenging times.
Wilford's legacy lives on through his son, Eric R. Miller, and his two adored granddaughters. He was a proud and loving patriarch, whose family extended beyond his immediate relatives to include a host of great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. His siblings, Dianna Moore, Willie G. Underwood, Belton E. Underwood, Brenda M. Winn, and Judith C. Lyles, shared in the joy of his life, supporting one another through thick and thin.
Wilford was predeceased by his parents, and the late Alphonso Moore and Ernest Winn, beloved family members who have gone before him. The memories of his life and the love he shared will remain in the hearts of those who survive him.
In honor of Wilford's life, his family suggests that memorial contributions be made to Community Baptist Church, a place that held a special place in his heart and was integral to his life.
