Wilbert Sylvester White, Jr., a cherished father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully on August 13, 2026, after a courageous battle with COPD. Born on October 9, 1947, in East Saint Louis, Illinois, Wilbert's life was a testament to resilience, love, and laughter. Wilbert was the beloved son of the late Vertie Lee White and Wilbert S. White, Sr. He was predeceased by his dear parents, his sisters Janice and Gwendolyn White, brothers Larry, Ricky, Delbert, Tilton, and Michael White, his son Allen Bass, and his precious granddaughter Farrah J. White. Despite these losses, Wilbert found strength and joy in the family he built and cherished. He is survived by his loving children: Casterdale White, Allen, Shirley Bass, Chaunce’ Gillespie, Catrina, Jack Robinson, Shannon, Monica White, Ferris White, Jarvis White, JaNelle, Mark White Craigmiles, and Marchris P. White. Wilbert's legacy extends to his 27 grandchildren and 30 great-grandchildren, who brought immense joy and pride to his life. In 2003, Wilbert married Janice Campbell, and together they shared years filled with love and companionship. A graduate of Lincoln High School, Wilbert dedicated his early years to serving his country in the U.S. Army. His career path led him to work for Monsanto in construction and maintenance, where he was known for his dedication and work ethic. Wilbert was a natural-born provider, a man whose humor and charm were always present. Known for his quick wit and a penchant for making others laugh, he had a flirtatious charm and an infectious smile. Above all, Wilbert's profound, compassionate love for his grandchildren defined him, leaving an indelible mark on their hearts. Family and friends are invited to celebrate Wilbert's life at a service on September 4, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. The service will be held at Officer Funeral Home PC, located at 2114 Missouri Avenue, East St. Louis, Illinois, 62205. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly suggests donations to a charity of your choice, honoring Wilbert's generous spirit.
