In Loving Memory of Westia Isheba Russell It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Westia Isheba Russell, a beloved daughter, mother, sister, and friend. Westia left us on September 18, 2026, at the age of 42, having fought a courageous battle with medical issues. She passed peacefully at home, surrounded by her loved ones. Westia was born on August 21, 1984, in the District of Columbia to Wesley Williams and Teri Russell Salley. She was a beacon of light and laughter, known for her quick wit and warm smile that could light up any room. Her presence was commanding yet comforting, making everyone feel welcomed and valued. Westia's life was a testament to her dedication to helping others. An alumna of Calvin Coolidge Senior High School's Class of 2004, she furthered her education at Laurinburg Preparatory College in North Carolina and the University of the District of Columbia. Her career in Human Services was marked by her passion for comforting the elderly and inspiring children. She served with dedication as a Paratransit Specialist at Metro Access and most recently as a Safety Technician with the DC Department of Transportation. A devoted member of The Greater New Hope Baptist Church for over 30 years, Westia accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior and was actively involved in community initiatives alongside various council members and organizations advocating for youth and ceasing violence. Westia's legacy lives on through her cherished children, Weshaun Russell and Westia Russell, who were her greatest pride and joy. Her heartfelt passion for their boxing careers was a testament to her unwavering support and love. She is survived by her parents, Wesley Williams and Teri Russell Salley, and her siblings Malik Russell Salley, Jerwon McLean, Wesley I, Queen, Wesley II, Jeremiah, Sasha, and Fendi. Westia was predeceased by her grandmothers, Carrie Russell and Iona Williams, and her brother, Anthony Russell. A service to honor Westia's life will be held at Friendship Missionary Baptist Church, 3444 Branch Ave, where family and friends will gather to celebrate her remarkable life and the indelible impact she left on everyone she met. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to a charity of your choice in Westia's memory. During this time of sorrow, the family wishes to express their deepest gratitude for the outpouring of love and support. Your kind expressions of sympathy through calls, visits, cards, and especially your prayers have been a source of comfort and strength. Westia's kindness, generosity, and infectious joy will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew and loved her. As we say goodbye, we hold onto the cherished memories and the lasting legacy she leaves behind. Please continue to lift the family in your thoughts and prayers as they navigate this difficult time.
